The feature of the IGCTs makes them have excellent performance in high-voltage high-current field. And the high integration of the drives and the devices makes it very convenient to use them. In the adjustable speed drive systems, the high power three-level voltage source inverters equipped with IGCTs are widely used now. In this paper, the main topological structures used presently in the inverters with IGCTs are analyzed. Based on the theory analysis and the system simulation, a high power three-level converter with IGCTs is designed. With the experiment of IGCT device and the converter system, the working performance of the converter is verified. The experiment results show that the converter reaches the design requirement and has excellent performance

This paper analyzes the characteristics of a large power surface magnet PMSM with sinusoidal windings used in a marine propulsion system using phasor diagrams. Also, these characteristics are simulated using MATLAB. The analysis and simulation are done for three different types of current control schemes, that is, the i/sub sd/ = 0 control method, unity power factor control method, and constant air-gap flux linkage control method. Based on the performance of the PMSM under these different control methods, a conclusion is drawn that the i/sub sd/ = 0 control method is superior to the other two control methods in marine propulsion systems when the armature reaction reactance is low.

In high performance AC drive systems, the large power three-level voltage source inverters equipped with IGCTs are widely used now and have promising future. In this paper, the principle of space vector PWM (SVPWM) for three-level inverter is introduced. Some problems of SVPWM for three-level inverter are discussed. Based on the system simulation, a high power three-level inverter equipped with IGCTs is designed. The working performance of the inverter is verified with system experiment. The experiment results show that the inverter has excellent performance
