i-Net: new network architecture for 5G networks

Jianquan Wang; Zhaobiao Lv; Zhangchao Ma; Lei Sun; Yu Sheng

In order to deal with the challenges and opportunities presented by the mobile Internet, this paper proposes a new Internet-oriented mobile network architecture, dubbed i-Net, for fifth generation (5G) mobile communication systems. Based on direct communications established between the base stations (BSs), i-Net can implement local data routing for mobile data traffic, which adapts to increased service localization for the mobile Internet. We first present the network architecture and main technical features, i.e., inter-connection, integration, and intelligence. Then the key techniques are discussed to show their potential in improving the network efficiency of i-Net. Field trials for inter-BS direct communications to implement cooperative multipoint oPeration (CoMP) in i-Net are carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of i-Net. It is expected that i-Net can provide a good quality of experience for end users through the efficient integration of the multi-BS, multi-band, and multi-radio-access-technology (RAT) radio resources in 5G.In order to deal with the challenges and opportunities presented by the mobile Internet, this paper proposes a new Internet-oriented mobile network architecture, dubbed i-Net, for fifth generation (5G) mobile communication systems. Analysis of MIMO Diversity Improvement Using Circular Polarized Antenna

Jianquan Wang; Zhaobiao Lv; Xinzhong Li

MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technique is one of the important means to enhance the system capacity. Diversity gain could be acquired by using traditional ±45° dual-polarized antenna, but in the scenario where multipath scattering is not strong, power-unbalance in two polarizations caused by polarization mismatching between transmitting and receiving antennas will reduce diversity gain. This problem can be effectively solved by using circular polarized antennas. In this paper, through theory analysis and test, the improvement of MIMO diversity gain using circular polarization antenna is analyzed.

Fairness-aware resource partition and routing in relay-enhanced orthogonal-frequency-division-multiple-accessing cellular networks

Jianquan Wang; Zhangchao Ma; Zhaobiao Lv; Yu Sheng; Wei Xiang

Unlike conventional cellular networks where the evolved Node B (eNB) performs centralised scheduling, future relay-enhanced cellular (REC) networks allow relay nodes (RNs) to schedule users independently. This decentralised nature of the REC networks brings about challenges to maintain fairness. In this study, we formulate the generalised proportional fair (GPF) resource allocation problem, where resource partition and routing are included as part of the overall radio resource management aiming to provide fairness across all users served by the eNB and its subordinate RNs. Although the traditional proportional fair scheduling algorithm is executed independently at the eNB and each RN to maintain local fairness, we propose efficient resource partition and routing algorithms to maintain global fairness by optimising the GPF objective for the whole relay-enhanced cell. Through system level simulations, the proposed algorithms are evaluated and compared with both non-relaying and relaying systems with benchmark resource partition and routing algorithms. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms outperform the existing algorithms in providing a better trade-off between system throughput and fairness performance.

Jun Xu; Fei Zhou; Yushan Pei; Yaoxu Zhang; Zhaobiao Lv

Whenever new cellular technology is considered for mass deployment hundreds of its RF parameters go through tuning process with a view to find out optimum value. And usually, it costs a lot of time and money. Consequently, extensive simulation becomes meaningful before commercial deployment. System can be facilitated in numerous ways and cost would be greatly minimized. With the path loss and propagation model, the radius of the site, the sites spacing and the coverage area of the site can be calculated. The system characteristics of LTE FDD and the link budgets for LTE FDD and WCDMA are calculated in this paper.

Study of Self-optimizing Load Balancing in LTE-Advanced Networks

Zhengrong Xiao; Yaoxu Zhang; Zhaobiao Lv

With the rapid development of mobile communication, mobile networks become more and more complex. Self-organizing network (SON) is a research focus. This article firstly gives briefly review on the performance of SONs that without physical backhaul interface, and then introduces a MLB algorithm which meets the requirements of this kind of SONs. Finally, a new scheme to improve the performances of LTE-Advanced network is proposed, and simulation shows that the scheme is of good performance.

Zhaobiao Lv; Jianquan Wang; Changling Wang; Qingyu Cai; Xinzhong Li; Jun Yang; Youxiang Wang; Bin Fan; Yu Sheng

With the development of Internet and 3G communication systems, the requirement of data transmission is increasing. Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) as one of the important techniques to improve the capacity of Long Term Evolution (LTE) systems have been widely discussed. However, how to deploy MIMO for indoor scenarios is still a problem which needs to be solved at present. In this paper, dual-path single-polarized antenna and dual-path dual-polarized antenna solutions are analyzed. According to simulation and test results, under appropriate indoor scenarios, the both solutions have good coverage performance and have 56% improvement in capacity performance compared with traditional single-path single-polarized antenna solution.
