We report a self-organized copper electrodeposition without imposed templates and induced additives. The deposit morphology on the silicon substrate varies from a branch to a parallel pattern by changing the applied voltage. We suggest that there are two essential factors for the formation of such kind of copper wire arrays. One is a proper electric potential distribution near the tip of the copper wire which dictates the direction of the solute transport. The other one is that the cathode overpotential and the equilibrium potential of reaction should remain unchanged at the growing interface.

A periodic PbTe/Pb nanostructure material with quasi-one dimension has been electrodeposited onto a SiO(2)/Si substrate by fabricating an ultra-thin electrolyte layer. The emergence of side branches at the edge of the nanowire array results from the non-uniform electric field distribution and the polycrystalline structure of the nanowires. The measurement of the electrical characteristics indicates that the crystal boundaries and defects in the nanowire could influence the change of resistance in the branch parts. This research should facilitate the acquisition of high-quality nanowire arrays by electrodeposition.

The ordered PbTe/Pb quasi-one-dimensional nanowires array was electrodeposited on the SiO2/Si substrate. There are two essential factors for the formation of such kind of change in nanowire morphology and structure. One is the charges distribution at the tips of electrodeposit, the other one is the change in ion concentration in front of growth tip. We research the current versus bias voltage characteristics of single PbTe/Pb nanowire by four-probe scanning tunneling microscopy system.
