The Structure and Fluorescence Properties of Two Novel Mixed-Ligand Supramolecular Frameworks with Different Structural Motifs

Two novel coordination polymers formed by cobalt nitrate and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane with the homologous ligands 2-aminoterephthalic acid and terephthalic acid, respectively, have been prepared. One displays a fivefold diamond-type feature while the other exhibits a twofold interpenetrating structural motif. Synthesis and Characterization of a Series of Novel Heptanuclear Trigonal‐Prismatic Polyhedra with Different Edge‐Ligands

Five novel heptanuclear trigonal-prismatic polyhedra, Na4[PrNi6(Gly)9(mu 3-OH)3(H2O)6].(ClO4)7 (1), Na2[PrNi6(Gly)8(mu 3-OH)3(mu 2-OH2)-(H2O)6].(ClO4)6.(H2O)2 (2), Na[DyNi6(Gly)7(mu 3-OH)3(mu 2-OH2)2(H2O)6].(ClO4)6.H2O (3), [SmNi6(Gly)6-(mu 3-OH)3Cl3(H2O)6].Cl3.(H2O)9 (4), and [ErNi6(Gly)6(mu 3-OH)3Cl3(H2O)6].Cl3.(H2O)9 (5), were synthesized through self-assembly and characterized by X-ray structure analysis. Complex 1 crystallizes in the trigonal P3 space group (a = b = 18.1121(2), c = 11.987(0) A, and Z = 2). Complex 2 belongs to the triclinic P1 space group (a = 16.0145(3), b = 20.58650(10), c = 20.8452(3) A, alpha = 78.0590(10), beta = 67.9200(10), gamma = 68.1540(10) degrees, and Z = 4). Complex 3 belongs to the monoclinic P2(1)/m space group (a = 14.9863(3), b = 13.533, c = 15.6171(3) A, beta = 116.8970(10) degrees, and Z = 2). Complexes 4 and 5 are isomorphous (4: trigonal, P3; a = b = 11.8661(4), c = 18.2034(10) A, Z = 2; 5: a = b = 11.9001(5), c = 18.1229(11) A, Z = 2). A Ln3+ ion is in the center of the prism formed by six nickel atoms. It coordinates to nine oxygen atoms. Its coordination polyhedron may be best described as a tricapped trigonal prism. The five complexes all have a core of [LnNi6(Gly)6-(mu 3-OH)3(H2O)6]6+ and were obtained through the edge-ligand exchange of the three mu 2-OH2 ligands of [LnNi6(Gly)6-(mu 3-OH)3(H2O)6(mu 2-OH2)3]6+ partly or wholly by glycine or Cl-. Magnetic measurements reveal that 1 and 4 exhibit antiferromagnetic interaction, while 5 exhibits a ferromagnetic interaction.

A novel mixed-ligand molecular bilayer generated by self-assembly of “T-shaped” moieties, displaying an unusual entanglement

The reaction of silver nitrate with 4,4′-biphenyldicarboxylate and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane under hydrothermal conditions gives an interesting 2D bilayer containing a new kind of “T-shaped” unit. Each of these 2D frames is interlocked with the neighboring layers to form an overall three-dimensional architecture, displaying an unprecedented entanglement.

A novel 2D bilayer architecture generated viaπ-π interactions and host–guest molecular recognition: assembly and structure of {[Cd(Htma)(bpy)(H2O)]·(H2tp)0.5·2H2O}n polymer (tma = trimesate, bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine, tp = terephthalate)

The interdigitation of the lateral tma ligands from two adjacent 44 nets via aromatic π-π interactions and host–guest molecular recognition gives rise to a novel 2D bilayer supramolecular architecture formed by the {[Cd(Htma)(bpy)(H2O)]·(H2tp)0.5·2H2O}n polymer. An interested parallel/parallel interpenetration of the 44 net appears in this bilayer supramolecular architecture through other 2D H-bonded 44 nets formed by tma molecules that H-bond with water molecules. This compound, obtained from a hydrothermal reaction, crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group and exhibits a broad intense fluorescent emission upon photoexcitation at 311 nm.

A novel ribbon-candy-like supramolecular architecture of cadmium(II)–terephthalate polymer with giant rhombic channels: twofold interpenetration of the 3D 8210-a net

The hydrothermal reaction of H2tp (tp = terephthalate), [Ph3PCH2Ph]Cl and water with Cd(O2CCH3)(2).2H2O gives rise to a novel ribbon-candy-like supramolecular architecture with twofold interpenetration of an unprecedented 3D 8(2)10-a net formed by polymer ([Ph3PCH2Ph][Cd(tp).Cl].2H2O]n containing giant rhombic channels, which displays strong fluorescent emission in the solid state.

A hydrothermally synthesized mixed-ligand molecular solid composed of pillared bilayers has been formulated; it presents a new remarkable three-dimensional architecture sustained by the catenation of two-fold decked layers, and exhibits intense photoluminescence upon photoexcitation at 314 nm.

Synthesis, structure and fluorescence of a 3-D polymer {(Mo4O12)(4,4′-bipy)2}n

Abstract We report the synthesis, single-crystal X-ray structure, IR, TGA–DTA and fluorescence of a black MOF crystal {(Mo4O12)(4,4′-bipy)2}n, which has two channels. One channel along the [001] direction was formed by a metaloxygen octatomic ring and the another one along the [010] direction was shaped by 4′4-bipy.

Two new coordination host frameworks for the inclusion of 4-amino-benzophenone guest molecules

Abstract The synthesis and structural characterization of novel organometallic coordination polymers are reported. The reaction of Cd(NO3)2 and 4,4′-bipy in CH3OH/H2O gave a 2D coordination network formulated as {[Cd(4,4′-bpy)2·(H2O)2](NO3)2·4H2O}10, which was used to capture an organic guest species (4-amino-benezopheone, C13H11NO (3)) to obtain {[Cd(4,4′-bpy)2(NO3)(H2O)]·NO3·(C13H11NO)2} (1). Using L (L=4,4′-trimethylenedipyridine) instead of 4,4′-bipy, {[Cd(L)2(H2O)2]·2H2O·2NO3·C13H11NO} (2) was synthesized, which has an interesting configuration.

The first octanuclear tin(IV)-oxosulfide cluster

Abstract The first octanuclear tin(IV)–oxosulfide complex (NH 4 ) 2 (Et 4 N) 4 [Sn 8 S 12 O 4 (SPh) 6 ] has been synthesized by mixing stoichiometric amount of Sn(SPh) 4 and (NH 4 ) 2 WOS 3 and thiophenol in DMF. The compound was crystallized in orthorhombic space group Cmcm, Z=4, a=18.0463(4) A , b=15.7599(2) A , c=19.1914(5) A , a single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed two coordinate modes of the tin atoms: five-coordinated distorted rectangular pyramid SnOS 4 and six-coordinated octahedron SnO 3 S 3 .

A helical chain of [Co(1,10-phen)2(V2O4)(O3PCH2CH2CH2PO3)]n (1) and a stepped chain of [{Co(1,10-phen)2}2(V4O10)(O3PCH2CH2CH2CH2PO3)(2H2O)]n (2) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions using [Co(1,10-phen)2]2+ as the metal-organic subunit and organic diphosphonate ligands of different lengths.
