A novel copolymer based on bis(4-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)phenyl)methane (BPM) and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) is successfully synthesized and characterized through electrochemical methods. The polymer film exhibits three distinct colors (khaki, yellow green, midnight blue) under different potentials, reasonable optical contrast (10% at 422 nm, 5% at 1100 nm) and fast swiching time (2.6 s at 422 nm, 2.2 s at 1100 nm). Beside, SEM images illustrates that the copolymer film presents a much smoother surface than that of the respective homopolymers, which means that the copolymer film have great potential in electrochromic device fabrication.

A handful of cyano-stilbene derivatives are successfully synthesized through Williamson and Suzuki reaction. The dipole-dipole interaction of intramolecular charge-transfer molecule is used to self-assembly microstructure of the as-prepared materials. The CNS-1 microstructures are large-scale spherical particles. However, compound CNS-2 forms straight one-dimensional (1-D) microribbons. Additionally, the morphology of micro-structures obtained from compounds CNS-3 and CNS-5 are large-scale spheres with several micrometres.

Various morphologies of ZnO nanostructures, including nanoparticle, nanotubes, and urchin-like ZnO and snowflake-like ZnO, were fabricated via solution-phase approaches. The morphology and crystallization of resulting Nano-ZnO were investigated by SEM, TEM, and XRD. The organic luminescent molecule (CNS-4) and ZnO nanocomposite films were cast from a common solvent mixture. The surface structures and optical properties of hybid films were investigated by SEM and PL spectra. The result indicated that ZnO nanocrystals incorporated with CNS-4 successfully tuned the colors of organic luminescent molecules, which could widen its applications on the LED displays.
