We review our measurements of total and differential cross sections for protons, deuterons and 3He incident on 6Li. These are the reactions which are important for evaluating a fusion reactor based on burning 6Li. Several of these reactions had not previously been measured, and among those that had there were large discrepancies in some cases. We employed several checks in our measurements to verify that the errors (including systematic errors) were 10 to 20 percent.

Abstract Angular distributions and polarizations of neutrons from the 51 V(p, n) 51 Cr and 55 Mn(p, n) 55 Fe reactions have been measured at proton energies corresponding to isobaric analog resonances in 52 Cr and 56 Fe. Values of the neutron polarization in the 51 V(p, n) 51 Cr reaction near the isobaric analog state at 2.335 MeV are non-zero and exhibit an energy dependence very similar to that of the 0° excitation function. Attempts to interpret the energy dependence of the polarization in this reaction are described. Non-zero values of the polarization were also measured in the 55 Mn(p,n) 55 Fe reaction near the isobaric analog state at 1.686 MeV. These data provide evidence that the analog can acquire a non-negligible neutron width.

Absolute cross sections have been obtained for the reactions /sup 6/Li(d,n/sup 3/He)/sup 4/He and /sup 6/Li(d,p/sup 3/H)/sup 4/He for deuteron energies from 100 to 800 keV. The energy spectra of particles from these reactions are continuums because of the three-body final state. Total cross sections as well as angular distributions have been obtained with accuracies of 10 to 17%. Comparisons of energy spectra are made to predictions of simple models.
