Abstract Cross sections of final states produced in K − n interactions at 3 GeV/ c are presented. The results, obtained in a 7 events/ub bubble chamber exposure with deuterium, are compared with results from an earlier K − p exposure at the same incident K − momentum.

G. Giacomelli; P. Lugaresi-Serra; F. Mercatali; A. Minguzzi-Ranzi; Anna Rossi; F. Griffiths; A.A. Hirata; I.S. Hughes; R. Jennings; B.C. Wilson; Guido Ciapetti; P. Guidoni; G. Martellotti; A. Nappi; D. Zanello; E. Castelli; P. Poropat; M. Sessa

Abstract A bubble chamber experiment is described in which observations were made of positive kaon interactions in deuterium. Partial cross sections are given at 13 kaon momenta in the range 0.64–1.51 GeV/ c . The computation of the free-neutron partial inelastic cross sections is discussed. From these results and from previously measured K + p data the (K + N) I =0 partial cross sections are derived.

Baryon exchange in the reactions K−n → Yπ− at 3 GeV/c

R. Barloutaud; D. Merrill; J.C. Scheuer; A.M. Bakker; W. Hoogland; S. Focardi; A. Minguzzi-Ranzi; Anna Rossi; B. Haber; U. Karshon; J. Goldberg; G. Lamidey; A. Rougé

At 3 GeV/c, the total and differential cross sections of the reactions K−n → Yπ− have been determined for nine S = −1 baryonic states. Backward peaks associated with a dip near u = −0.2 are observed in many cases. They have been interpreted, for the isospin-zero Y-states, in terms of a proton-exchange mechanism. The backward peaks in the reactions K−n → Λπ− and K−n → Σoπ− have been more quantitatively related to the backward πN → Nπ differential cross sections at the same energy. This comparison leads to the conclusion, that the first reaction is dominated by nucleon exchange, whereas the second one requires a more complex exchange mechanism.

G. Giacomelli; P. Lugaresi-Serra; G. Mandrioli; A. Minguzzi-Ranzi; F. Griffiths; I.S. Hughes; A.A. Hirata; R. Jennings; B.C. Wilson; G. Ciapetti; G. Mastrantonio; D. Zanello; G. Alberi; E. Castelli; P. Poropat; M. Sessa

Abstract Data are presented at 13 momenta between 0.64 and 1.51 GeV/ c for the coherent processes K + d → K + d, K + d→ K 0 d π + and K + d → K + d π + π − . Distributions for K + d elastic scattering are given in the (0.03 t | c ) 2 range.
