Medium Modifications of the NN Interaction and (p,p’) Scattering

We are exploring the consequences of “non standard” medium modifications in the NN interaction used in the non relativistic DWIA for proton-nucleus scattering at intermediate energy, and in the corresponding nuclear structure calculation. The modifications being considered are those resulting from the reduction, in medium, of the masses of scalar and vector mesons and nucleons as suggested by G. Brown and co-workers1 – 3 They present arguments for a universal scaling, \(m_s^*/{m_s} \simeq m_v^*/{m_v} \simeq M_N^*/{M_N}\) with m*/m ≃ 1 - λ/2 ρ/ρ 0 where ρ is the local nuclear density and ρ0 is the density of infinite nuclear matter, and λ ~ 0.3 – 0.5.
