Designing Machinery and Equipment in Accordance with the Principle of Sustainable Development

A. Wieczorek

The paper presents a designing scheme based on the main criterion of op misa on, which is to minimize the vibra ons and noise generated by machinery. This concept takes into account the deteriora on of the strength and opera onal proper es of construc ons, which should be brought to a sa sfactory level by applying addi onal measures. The considered design approach was examined on the example of the gearboxes, for which it is extremely difficult to achieve a noise reduc on due to their highly advanced technology. Operation-Oriented Method for Testing the Abrasive Wear of Mining Chain wheels in the Conditions of the Combined Action of Destructive Factors

A. Wieczorek; Wojciech Polis

This paper presents a general characteristic of a rig for chain wheel testing in the conditions reproducing the actual operating conditions of conveyor elements in the rolling and sliding motion. This test rig allows performing wear tests in the presence of an abrasive material, corrosive factors and additional dynamic excitations in the form of steel beaters. The paper also describes a methodology of abrasive wear tests of chain wheels that allows determining the value of the linear wear of chain wheels and presents the test results for the materials typical of armoured face conveyors. Minimization of vibroacoustic effects as a criterion for operation of gear transmissions in accordance with sustainable development principles

A. Wieczorek; Radosław Kruk

In correctly functioning maintenance systems it is most important to prevent possible failures. A reduction of the vibroacoustic effects accompanying the operation of machines and equipment, including transmissions, is among the factors that lower the probability of a failure. The paper presents the results of the research on the impact of operational factors on vibroacoustic conditions of transmissions. The factors covered by the analysis included a change in the mating conditions of gear wheels associated with the wear of tooth surfaces, operation of transmissions in subharmonic conditions of the main resonance and the temperature of the lubricating oil. The study demonstrated that it was possible to reduce the vibroacoustic effects generated by gear transmissions by changing the conditions of their operation. Based on the results obtained, it has been found that the operation of gear transmissions in accordance with the sustainable development principles requires technical services to take active measures consisting in the search for optimal operating conditions in terms of the vibroacoustic conditions. Modelling Multi-Way Planetary Gears by Means of Contour Graphs

Józef Drewniak; Stanisław Zawiślak; A. Wieczorek

The present paper presents multi-way planetary gears modelled by means of contour graphs. The goals of modelling could be versatile: ratio calculating via algorithmic generation of equations, the analysis of forces and acceleration or optimization and structure analysis. The article describes an exemplary gear. Several drives/gears are consecutively taken into account discussing functional schemes, assigned contour graphs and a generated system of equations and their solutions. The advantages of the method include an algorithmic approach and a general approach where particular drives are the cases of the generally created model. Moreover, the method allows further examination and synthesis tasks, e.g. checking the isomorphism of design solutions.

Effects of Construction Changes in the Teeth of a Gear Transmission on Acoustic Properties

A. Wieczorek

Abstract This paper presents results of experimental research on the acoustic properties of gear wheels with high-profile teeth with differentiated tooth height. Those results showed that gear transmissions with high-profile teeth have the best acoustic properties, with the value of the transverse contact ratio εα ≈ 2.0. They also showed that a reduction in tooth height, and thereby in contact ratio, increased the sound pressure level.

Experimental Studies on Abrasive Wear of Surface-Hardened and Shot Peened Alloy Cast Steels

A. Wieczorek

The paper presents the results of wear tests of shot-peened and non-shot-peened cast steels with the use of an especially designed test rig simulating real operating conditions of chain wheels. The chain wheels subjected to tests were operated with the use of loose quartz abrasive. The studies involved the determination of strength and plastic properties, hardness distributions, microstructure and linear wear of the selected cast steels. Based on the results obtained, the following was found: the abrasive wear of cast steel chain wheels increased after shot peening.
