Evaluation study of eLGuide: A framework for adaptive e-learning

Aasim Zafar; Ibrahim Albidewi

This paper outlines the design and development of an intelligent tutoring technique to personalize the navigation of individual users in the course content and generate advice to students. Based on that, a framework for adaptive e‐learning, the e‐Learning Guide system (eLGuide), is implemented and an empirical evaluation of the prototype is conducted to assess the possibility of its integration with web‐based learning systems. The system is tested in a real setting with the SQL—A Database Language course comprising postgraduate students of the computer science program, all new to database systems. The evaluation study shows a positive impact on learning outcomes. The results of the experimental study allowed us to conclude that eLGuide is a useful framework, which can be employed in a web‐based learning environment to support students as well as teachers in a better way.

Towards Adaptive e-learning: Technological Challenges and Enabling Technologies

Aasim Zafar; Nesar Ahmad

The growing number of E-learning programmes and parallel developments in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) has put forth many technological options to both the learner and instructor communities. The advent and popularization of ubiquitous computing and mobile devices have redefined the concept of E-learning by providing learners with variety of options to interact with E-learning system while at the same time compelled the course designers to choose the appropriate technology among plethora of available technologies for knowledge representation, storage and distribution. This paper outlines technological research challenges and explores the available technologies suitable for employment for performing various activities related to E-learning

An Empirical Study of the Improved SPLD Framework using Expert Opinion Technique

Md. Mottahir Alam; Asif Irshad Khan; Aasim Zafar

Due to the growing need for high-performance and low-cost software applications and the increasing competitiveness, the industry is under pressure to deliver products with low development cost, reduced delivery time and improved quality. To address these demands, researchers have proposed several development methodologies and frameworks. One of the latest methodologies is software product line (SPL) which utilizes the concepts like reusability and variability to deliver successful products with shorter time-tomarket, least development and minimum maintenance cost with a high-quality product. This research paper is a validation of our proposed framework, Improved Software Product Line (ISPL), using Expert Opinion Technique. An extensive survey based on a set of questionnaires on various aspects and sub-processes of the ISPLD Framework was carried. Analysis of the empirical data concludes that ISPL shows significant improvements on several aspects of the contemporary SPL frameworks. A Secure Framework for Software Product Line Development

Md. Mottahir Alam; Asif Irshad Khan; Aasim Zafar

In today’s marketing scenario, the software companies have the challenge to provide a vast variety of customized software products option to satisfy diversified customers’ requirements. Although increasing product varieties increase sales volume and profits, but it also raises development complexity, time and cost. In order to address the issues, companies are moving towards Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) which helps in providing large varieties of products with minimum development effort and cost. This approach amalgamate component based development and feature based development, both of which are based on the concept of reusability and facilitate the development of a family of products. This paper tries to propose an improved framework for software product line. Cross-cutting concerns such as security and configurability are addressed in this framework. Further, the proposed framework is compared with selected state of art frameworks.
