NOVEL COMPONENT-BASED DEVELOPMENT MODEL FOR SIP-BASED MOBILE APPLICATION

Ahmed Barnawi; Abdulrahman H. Altalhi; M. Rizwan Jameel Qureshi; Asif Irshad Khan

Universities and Institutions these days’ deals with issues related to with assessment of large number of students. Various evaluation methods have been adopted by examiners in different institutions to examining the ability of an individual, starting from manual means of using paper and pencil to electronic, from oral to written, practical to theoretical and many others. There is a need to expedite the process of examination in order to meet the increasing enrolment of students at the universities and institutes. Sip Based Mass Mobile Examination System ( SiBMMES ) expedites the examination process by automating various activities in an examination such as exam paper setting, Scheduling and allocating examination time and evaluation (auto-grading for objective questions) etc. SiBMMES uses the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) that is an IP communications framework providing an environment for the rapid development of innovative and reusable services Session Initial Protocol (SIP) is a signalling (request-response ) protocol for this architecture and it is used for establishing sessions in an IP network, making it an ideal candidate for supporting terminal mobility in the IMS to deliver the services, with the extended services available in IMS like open APIs, common network services, Quality of Services (QoS) like multiple sessions per call, Push to Talk etc often requiring multiple types of media (including voice, video, pictures, and text). SiBMMES is an effective solution for mass education evaluation using mobile and web technology. In this paper, a novel hybrid component based development (CBD) model is proposed for SiBMMES. A Component based Hybrid Model is selected to the fact that IMS takes the concept of layered architecture one step further by defining a horizontal architecture where service enablers and common functions can be reused for multiple applications. This novel model tackle a new domain for IT professionals, its ideal to start developing services as a small increments using the component and then adding new functionalities and improvements over time. The proposed novel model will be highly customizable for any university who acquired to adopt similar IMS based mass examination system. This model will be compatible with the traditional question-answer style examination and could meet the requests of the mass examination, such as university entrance exam, International Computer Driving License exam, etc.

Deploying SIP-based mobile exam application onto next generation netwok testbed

Ahmed Barnawi; Nadine Akkari; Muhammad Emran; Asif Irshad Khan

Over the past few years, mobile operators are faced with enormous challenges. Of such challenges, evolved user demands on personalized applications. Telecommunications industry as well as research community have paid enormous attention to Next Generation Networks (NGN) to address this challenge. NGN is perceived as a sophisticated platform where both application developers and mobile operators cooperate to develop user applications with enhanced quality of experience. The objective of this paper is two folds, first we present an introduction to state-of-the-art NGN testbed to be developed at KAU, and second we provide initial analysis for deploying a mobile application on top of the testbed.

An Empirical Study of the Improved SPLD Framework using Expert Opinion Technique

Md. Mottahir Alam; Asif Irshad Khan; Aasim Zafar

Due to the growing need for high-performance and low-cost software applications and the increasing competitiveness, the industry is under pressure to deliver products with low development cost, reduced delivery time and improved quality. To address these demands, researchers have proposed several development methodologies and frameworks. One of the latest methodologies is software product line (SPL) which utilizes the concepts like reusability and variability to deliver successful products with shorter time-tomarket, least development and minimum maintenance cost with a high-quality product. This research paper is a validation of our proposed framework, Improved Software Product Line (ISPL), using Expert Opinion Technique. An extensive survey based on a set of questionnaires on various aspects and sub-processes of the ISPLD Framework was carried. Analysis of the empirical data concludes that ISPL shows significant improvements on several aspects of the contemporary SPL frameworks. An Elite Model for COTS Component Selection Process

Asif Irshad Khan

Component-based software development (CBD) promises development of high-quality trustworthy software systems within specified budget and deadline. The selection of the most appropriate component based on specific requirement plays a vital role for high-quality software product. Multi-Agent software (MAS) engineering approach played a crucial role for selection of the most appropriate component based on a specific requirement in a distributed environment. In this paper, multi agent technique is used for component selection. A semi-automated solution to COTS component selection is proposed. It is evident from the result that (MAS) plays an essential role and is suitable for component selection in a distributed environment keeping in view of the system design and testing strategies. A Secure Framework for Software Product Line Development

Md. Mottahir Alam; Asif Irshad Khan; Aasim Zafar

In today’s marketing scenario, the software companies have the challenge to provide a vast variety of customized software products option to satisfy diversified customers’ requirements. Although increasing product varieties increase sales volume and profits, but it also raises development complexity, time and cost. In order to address the issues, companies are moving towards Software Product Line Engineering (SPLE) which helps in providing large varieties of products with minimum development effort and cost. This approach amalgamate component based development and feature based development, both of which are based on the concept of reusability and facilitate the development of a family of products. This paper tries to propose an improved framework for software product line. Cross-cutting concerns such as security and configurability are addressed in this framework. Further, the proposed framework is compared with selected state of art frameworks.
