In this study, the effects of the process parameters in the planing processes on the surface roughness were investigated. For this purpose, the experimental samples of cherry ( Prunus avium L.) and pear ( Pirus communi s L.) wood species, which are commonly used in the Turkish decoration industry, were prepared. In preparing the experimental samples, the wood was planed tangentially and radially to the annual rings at a cutting depth of 1.4 mm in a milling machine with 4 blades 85 mm in diameter. The wood was planed into the direction of spindle rotation and in the direction against the spindle rotation at feed rates of 6, 9 and 12 m/min. The surface roughness values of the experimental samples were determined by using a stylus-type profilometer according to the ISO 4287 standards. The surface roughness was evaluated according to the R a , R z and R y principles, which were three basic parameters of the determination method for surface roughness. According to the results, when the planing parameters were differentiated, the obtained surface roughness values also acquired a different character. The feed direction of work pieces for planing in the direction of spindle rotation was lower than the feed direction in the opposite to spindle rotation for the surface roughness. Urun tasarimi problem durumundan baslanarak urun sonucuna kadar suren asamada ic ice gecmis birbirinden farkli asamalar iceren karmasik bir dongusel surectir. Tasarim egitimi surecinde de tasarimci tarafindan olusturulan form fonksiyon iliskisiyle beraber cesitli elestirilere tabi tutulmakta ve degisime ugramaktadir. Tasarim egitimi suresince ogrencilere kazandirilan cok boyutlu dusunme becerisi urun uzerinde ozgun degisimlere sebep olmaktadir. Dinamik gelismelere bagli olarak kendini yenileyen urun formlari, tasarimcinin degisik kaynaklardan beslenme zorunlulugunu da beraberinde getirmektedir. Uzmanlik alanlari, kullanici ihtiyaclari, uretim teknikleri, malzeme secimleri, form cabasi gibi etmenler urun kimligini belirlemede etkili olurken, tasarimci bu sinirlar cercevesinde urune kimlik katacak sihirli dokunuslara imza atma cabasiyla yenilikci fikirler ve cozumlemeler sunmaktadir. Tasarim ve analiz programlarinin gelismesiyle birlikte tasarimcinin yeteneklerine de katki saglayan bu programlar urun tasarimi dongusunde farkli kesisimlerin icinde yer almaktadir. Bu durum tasarim egitiminde onemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Bu calismada urun tasarimi egitiminde olusturulan dongunun farkli asamalarinda kullanilan programlarin form uzerinde olusturdugu etki incelenmeye calisilmistir. Calismada masa ayagi tasariminda dayanim incelemesi, sac kurutma makinasi uc aparatinda ise akis simulasyonu yapilmistir. Iki ayri multidisipliner analiz calismasinda urunun fonksiyonunu gerceklestirecek ozelliklerin fiziksel etkilesimlerle nasil degisime ugradigi gosterilmistir. Bulgular dogrultusunda analiz programlarinin tasarim surecine saglayacagi katkilar ve urun kimligine etkileri orneklerle aciklanmaya calisilmistir.

The notion of “design thinking” can be regarded as a way of thinking that consists of both divergent and convergent phases. As a creative problem solving methodology, it first defines the problem with a human-centered perspective and then analyzes all the aspects of the problem as a part of a whole. This approach can be applied in all fields, including design education. With the emerging technology, computer-aided design tools and techniques have become an indispensable part of design professions, and therefore education. However, the way how computer-aided design tools and techniques should be integrated into current design education has not been discussed adequately. This study aims to frame the problems related to the current content, structure and timing of CAD courses. The alternative solutions regarding the integration of CAD courses to product design education will be proposed by using design thinking method.
