The abundance and size distribution of quark nuggets (QN), formed a few microseconds after the big bang due to first order QCD phase transition in the early universe, has been estimated. It appears that stable QNs could be a viable candidate for cosmological dark matter. The evolution of baryon inhomogeneity due to evaporated (unstable) QNs are also examined.

We present the bulk thermodynamic properties and phase diagram of strongly interacting matter in an extension of the 3-flavor Nambu\char21{}Jona-Lasinio (NJL) and Polyakov\char21{}Nambu\char21{}Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) models of QCD. Using a three-momentum cutoff scheme, we have extended the multiquark interaction terms up to eight order so that the stability of the vacuum is ensured in these models. We explore the effects of various combinations of the two eight-quark couplings
