Utilization of A Bioluminescent Pattern in the Encircling Gillnet Fisheries

To investigate the relationship between bioluminescent patterns and targeted fish species that cause this pattern, encircling gillnet sampling was conducted in shallow water (< 12 m) on moonless nights between February 2007 and December 2008 in the northern Aegean Sea, Turkey. The bioluminescent patterns of the targeted species Atlantic bonito, Sarda sarda, bluefish, Pomatomus saltatrix, and salema, Sarpa salpa were distinctive enough to identify the species. Although not a target species, round sardinella, Sardinella aurita, also exhibited a unique bioluminescent pattern to differentiate schools of that species from the other species. Bioluminescence “signature” of fish species was found to be an important tool in locating and identifying targeted fish species in the small scale encircling gillnet fisheries.

The catching efficiency of deep cast net used for catching whiting (Merlangius merlangus Linnaeus, 1758) in Sürmene coast, Trabzon (Black Sea)

Bu calismada, Trabzon ili Surmene kiyilarinda yaz ve sonbahar mevsiminde kucuk balikcilar tarafindan mezgit ( Merlangius merlangus ) avciliginda yaygin olarak kullanilan derin su serpme aginin (carmikli serpme) kullanim yogunlugunu ve av verimini incelemek amaclanmistir, dort farkli balikci barinaginda bu avcilik ile ugrasan 26 balikci teknesi ile 2016 ve 2017 sezonunda anketler yapilmistir. Buna ek olarak, derin su serpme aginin yaygin olarak kullanildigi bu bolgede 12 ay boyunca aylik orneklemeler gerceklestirilerek bu agin bolgedeki av verimi de belirlenmistir. Balikcilarin beyanlararina gore, 2016 ve 2017 yillarinda 50 gunun uzerinde av yaptiklari, her denize ciktiklarinda bu av icin 6 litrenin uzerinde yakit tukettikleri ve operasyon basina ortalama 1,2±0,1 kg/operasyon balik yakaladiklari belirlenmistir. Denemelerde ise av verimi balikcilarin belirttigi av sezonunda 1,9±0,2 kg/operasyon hesaplanmistir. Tum yil icin bu deger 1,1±0,1 kg/operasyon olarak belirlenmistir. Arastirmanin sonucunda, bu av aracinin tum Karadeniz sahilinde kullanim durumunun arastirilmasi gerekliligi ortaya cikmistir.

Gillnet selectivity for non target fish species caught by red mullet gillnets north Aegean Sea

Bu calismada yaygin olarak kullanilan barbun uzatma aglarinin hedef disi balik turlerinin surdurulebilirligine olan etkisinin belirlenmesi amaclanmistir. Bu amacla, kuzey Ege Denizi kiyilarinda (5-30 m.) Aralik 2008 – Mayis 2010 tarihleri arasinda 18 – 20 – 22 mm goz genisligine sahip barbun uzatma aglari ile denemeler gerceklestirilmistir. Hedef disi turlerin secicilik parametrelerinin tespitinde 5 farkli model ile (normal location, normal scale, gamma, log-normal ve bi-modal) SELECT tahmin metodu kullanilmistir. Yakalanan cizgili hani ve circir icin bi-modal, iskorpit ve izmarit icin log-normal, yabani mercan icin ise gamma en uygun secicilik modeli olarak belirlenmistir. 5 tur icin optimum yakalama boylari ve yayilim degerleri ile secicilik egrileri verilmistir. Calisma sonucunda barbun avciliginda kullanilan uzatma aglarinda ag goz genisliginin 22 mm’nin uzerine cikarilmasinin ilgili turlerin stok surdurulebilirligi bakimindan onemli oldugu tespit edilmistir.Bu calismada yaygin olarak kullanilan barbun uzatma aglarinin hedef disi balik turlerinin surdurulebilirligine olan etkisinin belirlenmesi amaclanmistir.
