Arylidene malonate derivatives 2a–c reacted with Lawessons reagent (1) LR in equimolar ratio to yield the oxathiaphosphorine derivatives 3a–c. The behaviour of LR towards cyclic ketones was also examined and yielded the thioxanthene derivatives 5a,b. On the other hand, arylidene pyrazolone 8 reacted with LR to give the phosphole 10. Aminobenzenethiophene 11 reacted with LR under reflux to produce the corresponding thiazaphosphorine 12.

2,3-Diaminophenazine 1 was used as a precursor for the preparation of some novel phenazine derivatives such as imidazo[4,5-b]phenazine-2-thione 2, its methylthio 3, ethyl 1-aryl-3H-[1,2,4]triazolo[2,3-a]imidazo[4,5-b]phenazines 8a-c, ethyl (2Z)-[3-aminophenazin-2-yl)amino](phenylhydrazono)ethanoate 9, pyrazino[2,3-b]phenazine derivatives 10, 12, 15-17, [1,4]diazepino[2,3-b]phenazine derivatives 13, 14, 2,3-dibenzoylaminophenazine 18, 1H-Imidazo[4,5-b]phenazine derivatives 20, 23a-c, 24, 25 and 4-[(E)-(3-amino phenazin-2-yl)diazenyl] derivatives 27-29. All compounds were tested as inhibitors of the proliferation of human lung carcinoma and colorectal cancer cell lines through inhibition of Tyrosine Kinases. Most of compounds exert good activity against the two cancer cell lines. Five compounds (1, 2, 3, 25 and 28) were found to possess the same activity as the standard drug Cisplatin.

The synthesis of pyridazinone and tetrahydrocinnolinone derivatives via the reaction of phosphonium ylides with different hydrazines is accomplished; reaction of a pyridazinone derivative with Wittig reagents is also achieved.

Starting from o-dianisidine 1 or o-anisidine 7 with ethyl N-araylhydrazono chloroacetate 2a–d, a series of new 1,2,4-benzotriazine 4a–d, 9, and bis-1,2,4-benzotriazine 6a–d derivatives were prepared. The mechanisms of the studied reactions have been discussed and the anti-microbial activity of the isolated products has been evaluated.

Irradiation of N-phenyl-2-phenylazo-3-oxo-3-[(4-phenyl-5-aryl)-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)thio]butanamides 4 a–c gave the corresponding title spiro compounds 5 a–c as end products via tandem rearrangement and cyclization of 4 a–c in their excited states.

The photocycloaddition of pyrimidine-2-thione derivative 1 to alkynes 2a–c and alkenes 7 and 11 are studied. Irradiation of a dioxane solution of 1 in the presence of alkynes 2a–c produced the thiol derivatives 3a–c through ring cleavage of thietene 5. Irradiation of 1 in the presence of alkenes 7 and 11 under the same conditions produced the corresponding photoproducts 10 and 13, respectively. The structure of all products was confirmed by analytical and spectral data.
