This study was to observe the activities of home-based businesses (Home Industry) farmers palm tapper and its impact on the socio-economic welfare of farm families. Socio-economic welfare of farm families is measured with indicators of the fulfillment of needs for food, clothing, shelter, education, health, and social life as well as to describe the process of making juice until molded into palm sugar. his research was conducted in three villages namely Papaloang, Village and Countryside Village Makian, Hidayat South Halmahera. Samples were taken of 100 people by random sampling. Data was collected through interviews and observations. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that activities tapper palm farmers in South Halmahera district can, contributing to increase the socio-economic welfare of farmers tapping palm.

The low capacity and lack of power make fisherman household fell under poverty cycle. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to find out strategy(ies) in accelerating fisherman household poverty reduction in East Java. This study used quantitative method along with the concept of sustainable livelihood approach (SLA). By SLA, this study reveals six capital aspects of fishermans household capacity. Based on these six aspects, fishermen can be divided into two types, i.e.; 1) the rich; 2) the poor fishermen, with the number of the poor are up to 77%. Whereas, the most crucial environmental problem in fishery lies on the trade system, which has the tendency of being controlled by middlemen. As a result, there are two strategies in poverty reduction, viz.: 1) the main strategy, in the form of institutional strengthening to optimise the role of fisherman (TPI); 2) the supporting strategy, in the form of housewife empowerment through fisheries product diversification.

Siak Regency of Riau province has a grant program which is fully giving the rural authority in developing the villages (POKMAS). Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to review the impact of POKMAS toward the village community empowerment and the obstacle factors. Based on the combination of cluster analysis and root cause analysis, POKMAS program is proven to have the implication toward the village community empowerment which are: 1) an increase in income, especially for the poor; 2) the village communities are able to establish the rural development; 3) the village communities are able to perform the responsibility. Meanwhile, the program still leaves some issues including: 1) low community motivation; 2) low participation of the poor and the women; 3) vested interest; 4) the limited ability of the administration. Thus, this program is expected to be a proliferation model of empowerment based on rural authority.

The objectives of this study are to examine the likelihood of society in turningxa0 the use of the traditional and gas furnaces to the UB earthen furnace and to examine the potential reduction of the use of firewood and gas furnaces at Dau Subdistrict of Malang. Using descriptive analysis, this study found that the use of UB earthen furnace is able to reduce the use of firewood and gas furnace up to 50% and people’s tendency in willing to turn both firewood and gas furnaces into the earthen furnace increases up to 60% dealing with its benefits and costs which have been observed by several main aspects (including economical, technical, environmental, social, and health aspects).

This research was conducted to analyze the process of interrelation between environmental communication and environmental management policy through radio broadcast resources in the suburb area and changes in environmental sociology. The necessary data include primary data and secondary data obtained by using: documentation and literature study, in-depth interview, observation which is observation of phenomena that are directly related to the observed target and just limit the issues in question and recording. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to describe systematic, factual and accurate, facts and properties of study area in accordance with the problems. The results showed that movement program and radiobroadcast organizer do not move the interrelation society related to new culture in environment such as lifestyles, a balance living pattern according to the capacity of the social environment. Interrelation society with movement program, both individuals and groups, are depends on their interest and image to policymakers. It is because of policy program was universally impressed, so less attention for the interest of structural-functional continuously. The study aimed to construct the framework of religious institution in Christians community in Tomohon, North Sulawesi Indonesia. This study shows that the activity of Church as a main religious institution in Tomohon provides significant role in community development. Community empowerment pattern is performed by the church through the establishment of training institution (i.e. BLPT Kaaten, Tomohon), which is actively provides opportunities to increase community skill and knowledge on coconut wood based industry. Such institution also assists in participant training so that the participants can open their own business independently to support daily expenses, education fees, and health costs. Significantly, the Church programs contributes to community health, eeducation, works opportunities and therefore decrease number of jobless and crimes. The programs significantly contributes to community social and economic status.

The aims of the study were to find out the role of Mapalus as a form of mutual assistance and mutual help (gotong rotong in Indonesian) among the local people of Tomohon as well as to examine the forms of Mapalus existing in Tomohon these days. Data were collected through interviews, surveys, participatory observations, and documentation. Based on the data collected, there were five Mapalus groups existing in the villages in East Tomohon Municipality, North Sulawesi Province. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that Mapalus grows from the awareness of the local people. Mapalus is practiced in many sectors such as farming, economy, grief events, and house construction. Membership is based on neither social status, nor educational background nor religion nor races. Community involvement in Mapalus has two benefits, namely the social and economic benefits. Social benefits are associated with the betterment of the lives of individualism society. Economically, Mapalus involvement could reduce cost to employ people.

This research is conducted to analyze management strategy in improving traditional fishers welfare. Firstly, probability sampling is used to determine the sample of 125 fishers and collected by using questionnaire. Data are analyzed quantitatively using SWOT (Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats) to formulate the management strategies. Secondly, non probability sampling is used to identify 16 informants and collected data by using Analysis Hierarchy Process (AHP) questionnaire. It is analyzed by using AHP (analytical hierarchy process) program to identify priorities of variables, indicators and strategies which effectively affect the improvement of traditional fishers welfare. Results show that the variables and indicators improvement of the traditional fi shers welfare are: (1) environmental change, (2) adaptive behavior, and (3) coastal development. Management strategies to improve fishers welfare include (1) human resource development; (2) income generating/investment and business development; (3) infrastructure development; (4) tourism development; and (5) law and regulation enforcement.

East Java Province was the first province with the largest amount of poor peoplein Indonesia. Irawan and Romdiati said that in their invention, 72% of the poorfamily depend their main income on the agricultural sector and most of them livein village area. This research has been done in Ngebrong Orchard, Tawangsarivillage Pujon Sub district, Malang Regency and used phenomenology approachin order to find the true reality which is hidden in human awareness that causedthe poverty. Some significant findings are found xa0in this research. Firstly, somecircumscription, such as geographical Isolation, lack of water resources – dependonly on climate and rainy season - has caused them suffer in poverty. Secondly,no monetary xa0and government xa0institution xa0care xa0their need xa0for a xa0non collateralcredit and assistance which will help them to leap from their condition. Thirdly,non clear xa0land working agreement makes xa0them have no xa0future xa0stable xa0incomeassurance. Fourthly, xa0cultural boundaries, xa0such as buwuh culture and xa0povertyhereditary culture make them more powerless. And the last, Fifthly, the acceptanceof their present life is a matter of being forced to submission, there is no other wayfor them to go rather than to accept it, and in fact it will help them happier.
