Noraziah Ahmad; Ainul Azila Che Fauzi; Roslina Mohd Sidek; Noriyani Mat Zin; Abul Hashem Beg

Data replication is one of the mechanisms in data grid architecture since it improves data access and reliability. There are many replication techniques exist in distributed systems environment include Read-One-Write-All (ROWA), Branch Replication Scheme (BRS), Hierarchical Replication Scheme (HRS) and our previous Binary Vote Assignment Data Grid (BVADG) techniques. All these techniques deploy different approaches of data placement in distributed environment. This paper presents the comparison of the replication storage between all these techniques. The result shows that BVADG has the lowest data replication storage between ROWA, BRS and HRS due to the small quorum approach of data placement.

Ainul Azila Che Fauzi; Ahmad Noraziah; Tutut Herawan; Noriyani Mohd Zin

The cloud is a next generation platform that provides dynamic resource pools, virtualization, and high availability. The concept of cloud computing is using a virtual centralization. This means, in one part, we have a full control on data and processes in his computer. On the other part, we have the cloud computing where the service and data maintenance is provided by vendors. The client or customers usually unaware about the place where processes are running or the data is stored. So, logically speaking, the client has no control over it. This is the reason cloud computing facing so many security challenge. In this paper, we presented selection issues in cloud computing and focus on the security issues. There are four cloud computing security issues that will be focused, namely XML signature, browser security, cloud integrity and binding issues and flooding attacks. Data security on the cloud side is not only focused on the process of data transmission, but also the system security and data protection for those data stored on the storages of the cloud side. There are some considerations that need to be focused in order to achieve better safe environment in cloud computing such as storage and system protection and data protection. In order to achieve better performance in security, cloud computing needs to fulfill five goals which are availability, confidentiality, data integrity, control and audit. By implementing these goals, we hope data security in cloud computing will be more secure. We also hope that cloud computing will have a bright future with arise of a large number of enterprises and will bring an enormous change in the Internet since it is a low-cost supercomputing to provide services.

Noriyani Mohd Zin; Ahmad Noraziah; Ainul Azila Che Fauzi; Tutut Herawan

A millions of data has been produce by cross-organizational research and collaborations must be managed, shared and analyzed. Data grid is a useful technique to solve these tasks that applicable to process the large number of data produced by scientific experiments. It also enables an organization to operate and manage distributed resources over the internet as a secure, robust, and flexible infrastructure. Some problems must be considered in managing data grid such as reliability and availability of the data to the user access, network latency, failures or malicious attacks during execution and etc. The replication strategy is the solution to solve these problems that can minimize the time access to the data by creating many replicas and storing replicas in appropriate locations. In this paper, we present some reviews on the existing dynamic replication replacement strategies due to the limited storage used on data grid and also to improve the management of data grid. It is shown that replication techniques able to improve availability and reliability of data, network latency, bandwidth consumption, fault tolerance and etc in data grid environments.

Replication in distributed database is the process of copying and maintaining database objects in multiple databases that make up a distributed database system. In this paper, we will manage fragmented database replication and transaction management for Malaysian Greater Research Network (MyGRANTS) using a new proposed algorithm called Binary Vote Assignment on Cloud Quorum (BVACQ). This technique will combine replication and fragmentation. Fragmentation in distributed database is very useful in terms of usage, efficiency, parallelism and also for security. This strategy will partition the database into disjoint fragments. The result shows that managing replication and transaction through proposed BVACQ able to preserve data consistency. It also increases the degrees of parallelism. This is because by using fragmentation, replication and transaction can be divided into several subqueries that operate on the fragments.

Replication usually referred as mechanism to increase availability and performance in distributed databases. Handling fragmented database replication becomes challenging issue since the distributed database is scattered into split fragments. Fragmentation in distributed database is very useful in terms of usage, efficiency, parallelism and also for security. In this paper, we manage fragmented database replication and transaction management using a new proposed algorithm called Binary Vote Assignment on Grid Quorum (BVAGQ). This technique combines replication and fragmentation. This strategy partition the database into disjoint fragments. The result shows that managing replication and transaction through proposed BVAGQ able to preserve data consistency. It also increases the degrees of parallelism. This is because by using fragmentation, replication and transaction can be divided into several sub-queries that operate on the fragments.

Neighbour Replication on Grid Deadlock Detection Framework

Noriyani Mohd Zin; Ahmad Noraziah; Ainul Azila Che Fauzi

Data grid is a distributed computing architecture that integrates a large number of data and computing resources into a single virtual data management system. It coordinated the data from several of resources and enables the sharing of the data. In handling and managing data grid some of problems must be considered such as reliability and availability of the data to the user access, network latency, failures or malicious attacks during execution and etc. These problems can overcome by using replication technique. The data will replicate into several sites. If one of the sites has fail, it will fail independently and not affect to others node. The deadlock is the most important problem that must be manages when sharing any data in data grids. Furthermore, it can reduce the throughput by minimizing the available resources, so it becomes an important resource management problem in distributed systems. In this paper, we propose Neighbour Replication Grid Deadlock Detection (NRGDD) framework to detect the deadlock during transaction occur in Neighbour Replication on Grid replication model. Based on this framework it shows how the deadlock can be detected.

Ainul Azila Che Fauzi; Ahmad Noraziah; Tutut Herawan; Zailani Abdullah; Ritu Gupta

One of the mechanisms for managing data is replication since it improves data access and reliability. However, the amount of various data grows rapidly since technology is widely available at a low-cost. Problem arises when the database is packed with data, but it has lacked of knowledge. If the unreasonable data is used in database replication, it will cause waste of data storage and delay the time taken for a replication process. This paper proposes a new algorithm namely Binary Vote Assignment on Grid Quorum with Association Rule (BVAGQ-AR) to handle fragmented database replication. BVAGQ-AR algorithm is capable of partitioning the database into disjoint fragments. Handling fragmented database replication becomes challenging issue to administrator since the distributed database is disseminated into split partitions or fragments. This paper will discuss about how to build reliable system by using the proposed BVAGQ-AR algorithm for distributed database fragmentation. The result shows that managing fragmented database replication through proposed BVAGQ-AR algorithm able to preserve data consistency.

In modern distributed systems, replication receives particular awareness to provide high data availability, reliability and enhance the performance of the system. Replication becomes as significant mechanism since it enables organizations to provide users with admission to current data where and when they need it. Integrated VSFTPD with Read-One-Write-All Monitoring Synchronization Transaction System (ROWA-MSTS) has been developed to monitor data replication and transaction performs in distributed system environment. This paper presents the ROWA-MSTS framework and process flow in order to preserve the data replication consistency. The implementation shows that ROWA-MSTS able to monitor the replicated data distribution while maintaining the data consistency over multiple sites.
