The purpose of this study was to survey the oral conditions of the severely disabled patients in Tokyo Metropolitan Higashiyamato Medical Center for the Severely Disabled.Their teeth, occlusal conditions, and kinds of prosthodontic treatment were recorded and analyzed for 90 inpatients who underwent treatment at the dental clinic of this center. The results were as follows:1. The DMFT-index of the patients was 14.91 and its national average was 15.15, which showed little difference. However, the numbers of untreated teeth and missing teeth of a patient were larger than those of the national average.2. Bruxism was recognized in 21.1% of the patients.3. Maxillary protrusion was recognized in 32.2% of the patients.4. Removable prostheses were not applicable to the patients. Fixed prostheses were effective because of preventing of accidental swallowing.5. More than 90% of the patients did not have chief complaints, but their family and physician did. It is desirable and important to consult with their family and physician about dental treatment of patients.

The object of this study was analyze mathematically the effect of condylar inclination of the nonworking-side condyle path on the tooth path. Conclusions of the calculation are;1. Error of the tooth path was proportinate to and smaller than that of condylar inclination of the nonworking-side condyle path.2. The relation of errors between condylar inclination of the nonworking-side condyle path and tooth path was hardly affected, even when the direction of condyle movement and the inclination of the sagittal incisal path was altered.3. Amount of error of the nonworking-side molar path was generally equivalent to a half amount of the condylar inclination of the nonworking-side condyle path, while that of the workingside molar path was a sixth thereof.

On the significance of reproduction of condyle path curvature.

Akihiro Mayanagi; Minoru Kuriyama; Shigeo Hasegawa

The objective of this study is to explain mathematically the effect of curvature of horizontal balancing condylar path and direction of working condylar path on tooth path. Conclusions from the calculation were;1. The direction of working condylar path, especially on posterior-external-superior laterotrusion, affected remarkably the relation of curvature of horizontal balancing condylar path and tooth path.2. As the direction of working condylar path was made greater toward posterior-external-superior, curvature of tooth path increased similar to that of horizontal balancing condylar path. From the facts described above, through another attempt of condylar path on the human lateral excurtion, the following results were obtained;3. On the human lateral excursion, it was very little case that put larger curvature of horizontal balancing condylar path and working condylar path in posterior-external-superior direction together.4. For this reason, it is clinically almost unnecessary to reproduce curvature of horizontal balancing condylar path on articulator.
