OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to know evidences of validity and reliability of the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT). METHODS: For this purpose, we considered 547 college students from Fortaleza (CE) with a mean age of 21.6 years (sd = 4.86, varying from 18 to 53), mostly male (51.5%), single (91.4%) and catholic (62.5%). The participants answered the AUDIT and demographic questions. Looking to know AUDITs factorial structure, we carried out a principal component analysis. Additionally, in order to evaluate its reliability, we calculated Cronbachs alpha (internal consistency), Pearson correlation r and intraclass coefficient correlation - ICC (test-retest). Also, descriptive statistics were evaluated. RESULTS: According to the principal component analysis using oblimin rotation, the bifactorial structure of the AUDIT proved to be consistent, once all items showed satisfactory saturations exceeding |0.40|, with the first factor explaining 47.5% of the total variance with alpha of 0.84 and Factor 2 explaining 11.6% of the total variance with alpha of 0.69. The results of the test-retest showed strong correlation between data obtained in the first (t1) and in the second (t2) applications (rtt = 0.94, p 0.05) with satisfactory ICC (0.96). CONCLUSIONS: The findings support the psychometric adequacy of the AUDIT, with the exploratory factor analysis pointing as more satisfactory the structure with two factors, and also showing its good temporal stability.

This study aims to evaluate the adequacy of uni and multi-factorial models of AUDIT, as well as to verify its convergent and criterion validity. Participants consisted in 386 people from the general population with average age of 27.7 years (SD=10.5). In addition to AUDIT , the participants responded to two others correlated instruments - CAGE and EAFUA - and to biosocialdemographic questions. The confirmatory factor analysis indicated the adequacy of the model of three factors, with goodness of fit indexes (χ2/gl=63,29, CFI=0,98, AGFI=0,98 e RMSEA=0,05) statistically higher than the structure of one and two factors. Finally, resorting to Pearsons r correlations and the comparison of means, both convergent and criterion validity of AUDIT were confirmed, attesting its proposal of measuring alcohol consumption and demonstrating its applicability in the screening of problem drinkers.

This article aimed to adapt and gather evidence of construct validity of the Online Gaming Motivations Scale to the Brazilian context. To this end, counted on the participation of 332 (male 83.8%) players randomly assigned into two groups: N1 with 132 players (Mage = 24.8, SD = 5.80), and N2 consists of 200 players (Mage = 24.2, SD = 5.63). They answered the scale and demographic questions. With the N1 was conducted an analysis of the main components, which showed adequate structure with three dimensions with acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha, α): achievement (α = .76), immersion (α = .78) and social (α = .72). With N2 we tested the three-dimensional structure by a confi rmatory factorial analysis. The fi t indexes of this model corroborated its suitability (e.g., CFI = .94, RMSEA = .06), with the three factors presented higher internal consistency .70. In conclusion, this measure shows evidence of construct validity, which suggests its use in future research.

The present research brings psychometric evidences for the Unidimensional Relationship Closeness Scale (URCS), aiming at verifying its adequacy for use in the Brazilian context. Participants were 468 university students with mean age of 21.2 years. They completed a survey composed by the URCS, the Basic Values Survey (BSV), and demographic questions. Through Exploratory (Eigenvalue = 6.61) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFI = .937, TLI = .923), the results showed that the same one-factor structure from the original version of the scale was found. These results were also invariant across gender and relationship status (∆SRMR < .03), and presented evidences of internal consistence (α = .94), temporal stability (ICC = .903, p < .001), and convergent validity (r male = .32, r female = .25, p < .001). In conclusion, this measure has shown to be psychometrically adequate for use in Brazil.

Aim: To investigate anxiety in cancer patients hospitalized in the mediate postoperative period, through the Trait-State Anxiety Inventory, and the correlation between anxiety and malignant neoplasms of the head and neck, stomach, and colorectal. Method: This is a descriptive, quantitative and correlational study, performed in a hospital located in the state of Ceara. We used an analysis of variance, ANOVA-F test, to assess the existence of differences in the scores of the scales. Results: The participants were 80 patients with a mean age of 50.9 years; they were mostly men (53.8%) with head and neck cancer (40.0%). The level of anxiety state and trait was moderate, and anxiety-state was slightly higher than trait anxiety in the three groups. Participants with head and neck malignant neoplasm had hig her average scores of the state anxiety and trait anxiety. Conclusion: There was no st atistically significant difference between anxiety and the three oncological surgical groups evaluated.

Objective This study aimed to assess evidence of validity and reliability of Exercise Dependence Scale-Revised (EDS-R). Methods A non-probabilistic sample consisted of 709 exercise practitioners from all over Brazil, aged 12 to 73 years (M = 25.7; SD = 8.43), most part male (55.1%) and single (75.5%). Participants answered EDS-R and demographic issues. About factor structure, procedures of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were used. Additionally, to assess measurement reliability, Cronbach’s alpha were calculated (internal consistency) and r Pearson correlations. Results Exploratory analysis (principal axis factoring) suggested an explained variance of 62.7% for a seven-factor structure. Total internal consistency of the scale was 0.88, with Cronbach’s alpha indices ranging from 0.68 to 0.89 among the factors. The correlation coefficients ranged from 0.10 to 0.65, supporting interrelated dimensions. Confirmatory factor analysis corroborated a seven-factor structure, based on satisfactory indicators of model goodness of fit [χ2 (168) = 288.21; p < 0.001, χ2/df = 1.78, GFI = 0.93, CFI = 0.95 and RMSEA = 0.04 (90% CI = 0.037 to 0.055)]. Conclusions These findings supported the psychometric adequacy of EDS-R, according exploratory and confirmatory analyzes, in line with the theoretical model of exercise dependence.
