In addition to leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and alopecia, hemorrhagic cystitis is a very serious complication of cyclophosphamide therapy. This complication was observed in 11 cases treated for advanced malignant disease in 1966-1969. the hematuria varied in severity from slight microscopic to profuse and life-threatening, and occurred with or without symptoms of cystitis. Early urinary culture has given no growth, but secondary infection has occurred. Cystoscopy revealed disseminated subepithelial bleeding in patients with mild to moderate hematuria. Large tumorlike masses were seen in the bladder in two patients with severe symptoms of cystitis and in others an edematous, swollen mucosa. Microscopic examination of the bladders showed many wide, thin-walled vessels beneath the epithelium. the mucous membrane was edematous, thickened or fibrotic. Necrosis, calcification and cystic epithelial nests were found. Cytologic examination of the urine showed epithelial atypia of varyin...

Cor triatriatum is characterized by pulmonary veins opening into a supernumerary left atrium located proximal to the proper left atrium. The supernumerary atrium represents the persistent, dilated common pulmonary vein. The proximal and distal atria communicate through a narrow opening. A normal mitral orifice provides further communication to the left ventricle (Fig. 1). The diagnosis is difficult to establish in vivo and requires angiocardiography and catheterization.

A 58-year-old man underwent renal transplantation. 8 years later the graft still functioned well. He has had immunosuppressive therapy, but in recent years only in low doses. Four years ago skin tumours started to appear and have been removed on 15 occasions. Most of the tumours were florid keratoacanthomas and their relation to immunosuppression is discussed. Examination of removed specimens by electron microscopy has not revealed the presence of virus particles in the cells.

ABSTRACT. Two cases of occult intestinal blood loss due to giant ileal diverticula are described. In one of them, ectopic gastric mucosa was found at microscopic dissection. In the other that was probably originating from a blind loop formation at a previous operation, multiple mucosal erosions, probably due to retained bowel contents, were considered responsible for the blood loss. Though giant diverticula are rare throughout the gastrointestinal tract, and usually cause symptoms other than bleeding, the importance of a careful search for this malformation in children with occult faecal blood loss is stressed.
