This is a qualitative study aimed to learn the signs and symptoms of the burnout syndrome among undergraduate nursing students, by means of semi-structured interviews with 24 nursing undergraduates from a public university in the south of Brazil. The discursive textual analysis was used and defined three categories, related to the dimensions of the burnout syndrome in students: emotional exhaustion, disbelief and low professional efficacy. The specificities of the situations experienced by students are associated with emotional exhaustion, contributing to the detachment from their studies and compromising their sense of professional efficacy. The worn-out signs, detachment from studies and inefficacy mentioned by the students demand appropriate attention and consideration from higher education institutions, provided with the planning and implementation of actions to minimize the stress caused by the identified situations, which seem to be associated with the development of the burnout dimensions among students. OBJECTIVE Analyzing beliefs and actions of nurses in exercising patient advocacy in a hospital context. METHOD A quantitative cross-sectional exploratory and descriptive study, conducted with 153 nurses from two hospitals in southern Brazil, one public and one philanthropic, by applying Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale - Brazilian version. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance. RESULTS Nurses believe they are advocating for patients in their workplaces, and agree that they should advocate, especially when vulnerable patients need their protection. Personal values and professional skills have been identified as major sources of support for the practice of advocacy. CONCLUSION Nurses do not disagree nor agree that advocating for patients in their working environments can bring them negative consequences. It is necessary to recognize how the characteristics of public and private institutions have helped or not helped in exercising patient advocacy by nurses.OBJETIVOAnalisar as crencas e acoes de enfermeiros no exercicio da advocacia do paciente no contexto hospitalar.METODOEstudo quantitativo, exploratorio-descritivo, com delineamento transversal, realizado com 153 enfermeiros de duas instituicoes hospitalares do sul do Brasil, uma publica e uma filantropica, mediante aplicacao do Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale - versao brasileira. Os dados foram analisados atraves de estatistica descritiva e analises de variância.RESULTADOSOs enfermeiros acreditam que estao advogando pelos pacientes em seus ambientes de trabalho, concordando que devem advogar, especialmente quando pacientes vulneraveis precisam da sua protecao. Os valores pessoais e a qualificacao profissional foram identificados como principais fontes de apoio ao exercicio da advocacia.CONCLUSAOOs enfermeiros nem discordam e nem concordam que advogar pelos pacientes em seus ambientes de trabalho possa lhes trazer consequencias negativas. Faz-se necessario reconhecer como as caracteristicas das instituicoes publicas e privadas vem favorecendo, ou nao, o exercicio da advocacia do paciente pelos enfermeiros.

OBJETIVO: identificar como enfermeiros gestores definem e exercem a lideranca em um Hospital filantropico do Sul do Brasil; identificar as formas de preparacao destes enfermeiros para a atuacao de lideranca. METODO: estudo quantitativo, realizado com 15 enfermeiros que trabalhavam nos cargos de gestao do referido hospital no ano de 2011. Para coleta de dados utilizou-se um questionario estruturado aplicado no campo da pesquisa. RESULTADOS: verificou-se que o conceito de lideranca e reconhecido positivamente pelos enfermeiros e esta associado a comunicacao eficaz e eficiente e a etica, entretanto, a formacao para tal, foi reduzida e limitada apenas ao periodo da graduacao. Identificou-se ainda, que a resistencia da equipe constitui a principal barreira para o exercicio da lideranca. CONCLUSAO: se faz necessaria uma formacao especifica no tocante a lideranca para enfermagem, qualificando os profissionais para uma atuacao mais competente, humanizada e etica.

Objetivo:adaptar culturalmente e validar o instrumento Protective Nursing Advocacy Scalepara enfermeiros brasileiros.Metodo:estudo metodologico, realizado com 153 enfermeiros de duas instituicoes hospitalares do Sul do Brasil, uma publica e uma filantropica. Realizou-se a adaptacao transcultural do instrumento Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale, segundo recomendacoes internacionais e sua validacao para utilizacao no contexto brasileiro, atraves de analise fatorial e verificacao da consistencia interna pelo alfa de Cronbach.Resultados:mediante avaliacao de comite de especialistas e realizacao do pre-teste, a validade de face e conteudo do instrumento foi considerada satisfatoria. A partir da analise fatorial, foram identificados cinco constructos: implicacoes negativas do exercicio da advocacia, acoes de advocacia, facilitadores ao exercicio da advocacia, percepcoes que favorecem o exercicio da advocacia e barreiras ao exercicio da advocacia. O instrumento apresentou consistencia interna satisfatoria, com valores de alfa de Cronbach entre 0,70 e 0,87.Conclusao:conclui-se que o Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale- versao brasileira e um instrumento valido e fidedigno para ser utilizado na avaliacao das crencas e acoes da advocacia em saude, exercida por enfermeiros brasileiros no ambiente da pratica profissional.Abstract Objective: to adapt culturally and validate the Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale for Brazilian nurses. Method: methodological study carried out with 153 nurses from two hospitals in the South region of Brazil, one public and the other philanthropic. The cross-cultural adaptation of the Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale was performed according to international standards, and its validation was carried out for use in the Brazilian context, by means of factor analysis and Cronbachs alpha as measure of internal consistency. Results: by means of evaluation by a committee of experts and application of pre-test, face validity and content validity of the instrument were considered satisfactory. From the factor analysis, five constructs were identified: negative implications of the advocacy practice, advocacy actions, facilitators of the advocacy practice, perceptions that favor practice advocacy and barriers to advocacy practice. The instrument showed satisfactory internal consistency, with Cronbachs alpha values ranging from 0.70 to 0.87. Conclusion: it was concluded that the Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale - Brazilian version, is a valid and reliable instrument for use in the evaluation of beliefs and actions of health advocacy, performed by Brazilian nurses in their professional practice environment.

O objetivo foi analisar a satisfacao com a experiencia academica e sua relacao com as variaveis sociodemograficas entre estudantes de graduacao em enfermagem de uma universidade publica do Sul do Brasil. Estudo quantitativo, realizado com 170 estudantes de graduacao em enfermagem, mediante aplicacao da Escala de Satisfacao com a Experiencia Academica. Utilizou-se a estatistica descritiva, analise de variância e analise de regressao linear para analise dos dados. Constatou-se que os estudantes se mostraram nem satisfeitos/nem insatisfeitos com o curso, a instituicao e a oportunidade de desenvolvimento, sendo que a dimensao Satisfacao com o Curso apresentou a maior media do instrumento; estudantes mais jovens e que realizavam atividades de lazer apresentaram maior satisfacao com o curso e com a oportunidade de desenvolvimento. Espera-se que o reconhecimento das possiveis satisfacoes e insatisfacoes dos estudantes possa contribuir para o estabelecimento de estrategias que visem qualificar a aprendizagem dos estudantes.

A qualitative, exploratory- descriptive research was carried...Este estudio tuvo como objetivo conocer como los enfermeros estan practicando la defensa del paciente en el contexto del hospital. Se realizo una investigacion cualitativa, exploratorio- descriptiva, en un hospital universitario en el sur de Brasil. Los encuestados fueron 16 enfermeros, seleccionados mediante muestreo no probalistico, del tipo bola de nieve. Para recopilar los datos, fueron realizadas encuestas semi-estructuradas, grabadas y transcritas, analizadas mediante analisis textual discursivo y referencial teorico foucaultiano. Como resultados, emergieron dos categorias: el coraje de verdad: el ejercicio de la defensa mediada por el dialogo franco; estrategias de resistencias para el ejercicio de la defensa de los pacientes. Se concluye que la estabilidad profesional y el apoyo de la institucion contribuyen para que los enfermeros se sientan encorajados a practicar la defensa, mismo en situaciones dificiles de enfrentamiento, utilizandose de la parresia y de estrategias de resistencia para asegurar la defensa efectiva de los intereses de los pacientes.

Objective: to identify stress triggers in the educational environment as perceived by nursing students. Method: descriptive-exploratory, quantitative study, conducted with 146 nursing students to whom the Stress Assessment Scale was applied, between august and September 2013. Descriptive statistics, analysis of variance and linear regression were used to analyze the data. Results: the most important stress triggers identified was lack of time to be with friends/family and to take part in leisure activities or to rest. Additionally, difficulties faced in relationships between professors and students were directly related to poor academic performance and perceived poor knowledge acquisition. Conclusion: identifying and understanding the factors that stress trigger among nursing students can enable better management of stressful situations, contributing to improved academic performance and, consequently, improved quality of life among students. OBJECTIVE Identify the barriers and facilitators of health advocacy to users delivered by nurses from the Family Health Strategy. METHOD Qualitative study carried out with nurses from the Family Health Strategy of a city in the south of Brazil. Study participants were 15 nurses, who were interviewed. The content of the interviews was recorded, transcribed and analyzed in the light of the discursive text analysis. RESULTS Two categories emerged, one about the lack of organization at the workplace, bureaucracy and limitations to professional work in health environments, and another about the facilitating aspects to exercise advocacy both individually and collectively. CONCLUSION When nurses, provided with technical, scientific and relational knowledge, are empowered to make decisions, they are not only supported by other professionals at work but also develop actions of health advocacy to users, thus qualifying the care delivered.
