El uso del agua en los jardines de las urbanizaciones del litoral de Alicante. Prácticas de ahorro y sus causas

The intensive urbanization process experienced by the Spanish Mediterranean coast in relationship with tourist activity has brought some changes in land use. One of these has been the increase in water consumption due to the expansion of urban sprawl characterized by the presence of urban natures, such as gardens and pools. The aim of this study is to know and analyse water use in the outdoor areas of the dwellings in the residential developments of the Alicante coast. The methodology implemented has been the conducting of interviews with the owners in order to understand water use in outdoor areas. The main conclusion was that residents had adopted several strategies and changes in recent years in the use of water in outdoor areas with the aim of reducing water consumption.

Espacios ajardinados privados y su incidencia en el consumo de agua en España. Estado de la cuestión

The increase of the urban development that have been happened in Spain since the second half of the last century has shown different land impacts and the unsustainable urban model implanted. In this regard, on the outskirts of large conurbations and the coastal area it has implemented a low urban density model where is characteristic the single family gardens. The objective of this research is to make a state of the art, from a land and geographical perspective that analyze private gardens and their impact on water consumption, identify areas of study, implemented methodologies, and identify the similarities and the differences between the studies analyzed. Methodologically it has conducted a literature search in various databases and the results show how this subject has been discussed since the early 2000s in the areas of the Mediterranean coast.

The use of muddy water in San Vicente del Raspeig (Alicante) as an example of traditional and sustainable irrigation system In San Vicente del Raspeig, the traditional irrigation system, as in other parts of the southeast of Spain, has been the use of muddy water. This system took advantage runoff after rainfall events to water, to fertilize the crops and filling tanks and cisterns. This type of sporadic water provision was abandoning progressively during the middle of the twentieth century with the introduction of new agricultural techniques and the arrival of water supplies from others regions that guaranteed a full flow throughout the year. Nowadays, the abandonment of areas that this system was practiced and its occupation for residential uses have generated the spread of environmental and territorial problems that this traditional irrigation system minimized.

El patrimonio hidraulico y la cultura del agua son unos de los temas de estudio que mas se ha investigado en la region mediterranea y en concreto, en el sureste peninsular, dadas las condiciones geograficas como, escasez de precipitaciones, ausencia de aguas superficiales permanentes durante todo el ano, etc., que han condicionado que los pueblos que han habitado esta area a lo largo de la historia hayan configurado una sociedad y unos paisajes influenciados por este bien escaso. Para estas sociedades el agua es un elemento de vida que ha caracterizado tanto la ribera mediterranea espanola como la norteafricana, siendo el mar Mediterraneo un puente de culturas e influencias que han ayudado a propagar diferentes sistemas hidraulicos para poder aprovechar el agua para abastecimiento y regadio. Los estudios sobre estas tematicas se han centrado principalmente en actuaciones con objeto de hacer frente a dos de los problemas asociados a las condiciones climaticas del sureste peninsular como, las sequias e inundaciones. En la actualidad, aunque gran parte del patrimonio hidraulico ha perdido su funcionalidad, tiene un enorme interes desde el punto de vista tecnico y patrimonial, pues presenta sistemas de gran relevancia como, por ejemplo, las infraestructuras utilizadas para trasvases de caudales entre diferentes cuencas, donde cobra el agua un protagonismo especial ya que es necesaria para el abastecimiento y desarrollo territorial de dos sectores economicos vitales en el sureste peninsular como son, la actividad turistica y la agricultura intensiva.
