Understanding the Acceptance of Augmented Reality at an Organisational Level: The Case of Geevor Tin Mine Museum

E Cranmer; Timothy Jung; M. Claudia tom Dieck; Amanda Miller

Augmented Reality (AR) has recently emerged as a popular tool for tourism organisations to enhance visitors’ experiences through its ability to overlay information into the real world environment. Cultural heritage attractions such as museums have begun exploring the potentials and benefits of AR, but it remains a largely new field of research. The importance of user acceptance and adoption studies are well established; however, research into the implementation of AR from an organisational perspective is scarce. This study therefore aims to understand the perception towards AR implementation at an organisational level using semi-structured interviews with nine internal stakeholders at Geevor museum. Interviews were analysed using content analysis and findings demonstrate positive support for AR implementation, identifying a variety of potential ways it could enhance the experience of both visitors and staff.

Conceptual Approaches on Quality and Theory of Tourism Services

Gina Ionela Butnaru; Amanda Miller

Abstract Quality is a factor of increasing the competitiveness and of realising the performances of the companies in the field of tourist services. Competitiveness and performance made the companies to be permanently concerned with the quality of the services they offered, so as to correspond to the customers’ demands. An important role for the development of the quality of services in tourism has the realisation of the degree of understanding the importance of quality by the management, and the level of resources necessary to obtain quality. The modern concept of quality expresses the involvement in its realisation of the entire personnel of the company, which implies the existence of a permanent preoccupation concerning training and improvement. Quality becomes everybodys concern, and each ones.

Tourism experiences through the eyes of a child

Steven Rhoden; Philippa Hunter-Jones; Amanda Miller

ABSTRACT Children are viewed typically as unsophisticated or incompetent research respondents. We challenge these assumptions by collecting data directly from 39 children, aged 9 and 10 years, which captures how they experience their holiday destination through ‘real time’ recordings. The findings reveal that children like to be physically active, have freedom and safety to play and make new friends independently. Holidays represent time spent with family and offer an escape from everyday routines and environments. Conversely, children dislike bad weather and queuing in traffic, restaurants and attractions; journeys are spoiled by travel sickness. This paper makes a number of major contributions to existing research. It adds to our understanding of the physical and emotional proximity of tourism experiences within an age specific context. It explores childrens views and opinions as articulated by themselves and not adult proxies. It provides ‘real time’ data on tourism experiences, rather than using recollections.
