The main goal of the engine-gear-clutch electronic control system is to improve the performance of the vehicle even in terms of passengers comfort. Based on trajectory generation techniques, this paper proposes a nonlinear filter for the generation of comfortable car acceleration profiles during automatic gear shift operations. The passengers head oscillations are evaluated by means of a head-neck dynamic model validated by experimental measurements. The on-line generation of the acceleration profiles ensures the required flexibility. The paper proposes also a methodology that can easily be extended either to fit with different comfort specifications or to match driveline constraints.

Both motivation and capabilities define a task and determine the result. When it comes to using a product, how can technology meet the user’s needs at its best? Future human machine interfaces will need to strongly rely on assessing the human performances and benefits will be found into a reduced human workload and increased user’s pleasure. How can we achieve this? What’s the scenario in the automotive industry? Evidence shows that we are not too far from a new Renaissance.

Abstract Based on the nonlinear behaviour of the tires and of the hydraulic assistance, this paper proposes a new control strategy for electro-hydraulic power steering that amplifies the drivers sensitivity on the steering wheel when approaching dangerous situations. The Proactive Safety Steering Control gives wide safety margins that allows the driver to correct the car dynamics and to prevent dangerous actions before the car physical limit is really reached.

Abstract In this paper a complete dynamic model of a road vehicle is derived and discussed, which can be suitably used to develop the new concept of “performance-oriented” yaw-control system.
