This study presents the taxonomic treatment of the epiphytic Bromeliaceae from Caxiuana National Forest (FLONA), situated 400 km far from Belem, in the municipalities of Melgaco and Portel, state of Para. The collections of fertile material were randomized and accomplished between April 2009 and November 2010. In the FLONA of Caxiuana, Bromeliaceae is represented by five species, Aechmea bromeliifolia, A. mertensii, Araeococcus micranthus, Guzmania lingulata, and Tillandsia bulbosa, which are distributed in four genera and two subfamilies. Key for species, short descriptions, phenological and habitat observation, geographic distribution and taxonomic comments on the species are presented.

Abstract Vanilla labellopapillata, here described and illustrated, is a new species from the floodplain forest of Caxiuanã National Forest, situated in the northeastern Brazilian Amazon. The new species has consistent morphological features that support its inclusion in the Vanilla planifolia group. Vanilla labellopapillata is morphologically similar to V. insignis and V. odorata and diagnostic characters for separating it from the two species are given. A key to the Vanilla planifolia group is provided. Another species, V. cribbiana, recently described from Mexico and Central America is recorded for the first time in Brazil. Based on the examination of type material of Vanilla, we also propose the lectotipification of V. trigonocarpa and V. duckei.

Passifloraceae is mainly characterized by the lianescent habit, and the genus Passiflora is the most representative. In the Serra dos Carajas, 12 species were recorded, but only P. ceratocarpa, P. glandulosa, P. tholozanii, and Passiflora sp1 occur in the cangas. This study provides descriptions, illustrations and morphological comments for these four species.

The genus Tropidia is composed of ca. 20-30 species distributed in southern Asia, South Pacific islands and northern Australia, and a single species occurring in America, from United States to Ecuador. The first record of the genus Tropidia for Brazil is presented here. It consists of Tropidia polystachya, a species found in the Cerrado biome, Midwestern Brazil. Description, illustration, photos, and distribution map of the species are provided. Additionally, the leaf anatomy of the species was studied and it is very similar to the leaves of other species of Tropidieae described so far. DNA sequences of T. polystachya are presented (plastid matK and rbcL and nuclear ITS) in order to assist future phylogenetic studies with the genus.
