The aim of this research was to study the effect of vegetable wastes addition on physical and mechanical properties of soil-cement bricks. It was used two types of wastes (rice and Brachiaria brizantha rusk). The Portland cement content used on the soil stabilization was of 10%. The combinations of cement and vegetable wastes contents varied from 100% of cement content and 0% of wastes content to 60% of cement content and 40% of waste content. The bricks were submitted to the compression tests and to the water absorption test. The best results, in terms of compression strength and water absorption capacity were reached by the 10% addition of vegetable wastes in substitution to the cement. The results suggest the promising use of these wastes, at the 10% content, without the commitment of the mechanical properties related to the resistance and to the water absorption capacity of the soil-cement bricks.

The objective of this study was to evaluate production of Sweet Grape mini tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) using culture substrates and nutrient solution sewage effluent, applied by drip irrigation (fertigation). The experiment was conducted at the University of Goias State (UEG-UnUCET), from June to November 2011 in Anapolis-GO, Brazil. The experimental design was a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement in a randomized complete block design with four repetitions. The plots were made by combining two nutrient solutions, effluent supplemented with mineral fertilizers (EcS); conventional nutrient solution (SnC); in addition three cultivation substrates: 60% of fine sand washed + 40% substrate composed by 20% coconut fiber plus 80% pine bark (S1); 20% coconut fiber and 80% pine bark (S2) and natural coconut fiber (S3). Sewage effluent were determined nitrate, calcium, potassium, manganese, total phosphate, total iron, magnesium, chloride, sulphate, boron, zinc and molybdenum. We evaluated average mass and average number of fruits per bunch, total fruit and total yield per plant. Statistical difference absence among tested solutions indicates sewage effluent can be used as an alternative source of nutrients in growing mini tomatoes in hydroponics.

The objective of this study was to verify the growth of seedlings of aroeira produced with vermicompost of tannery sludge destined to the recovery of degraded areas in the Cerrado. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replicates, with four types of vermicompost (V1-25% L1 + 75% C2, V2-50% L1 + 50% C2, V325% L2 + 75% C2; And V4-50% L2 + 50% C2) and 3 application rates (D1-5g, D2-15g, and D3-30g). The height and diameter of the plants were collected at 30 and 60 days after sowing. The dose 1 of the three vermicompost (V1, V2, and V3) was better than the other doses for the 30 DAS. The best dose should be 5 g. In obtaining larger plants in the production of forest seedlings, smaller doses of vermicompost of tannery sludge may be used.
