Understanding the behavior of managers provides an opportunity to assess congruencies between organizational needs and managerial skills. This assessment is critical in federal health-care wherein the environment is rapidly changing. In the current investigation, dimensions of managerial behavior for 267 managers in a federal health-care agency were identified. Recommendations are provided with respect to the relevance of using these dimensions for organizational training and development activities.

The occupational Safety and Health Act provides for state jurisdiction over occupational safety and health issues. Observers have suggested that state programs have different, and in many instances, more lenient enforcement standards than the federal program. In this study we compared 4,755 state inspections with 4,590 randomly generated federal inspections. Significant differences were found in both process and outcome variables between the two inspection types. We discuss the merits of state program enforcement compared to the federal program based on these results.

Abstract This article analyzes the issue of public disclosure of faculty teaching evaluations from a strictly legal perspective. Because public colleges and universities are quasi-governmental entities, it is expected that many of the privacy statutes afforded government employees may apply to faculty members. A brief discussion of potential liability under common law defamation and invasions of privacy torts is provided for private colleges and universities with an interest in the public disclosure issue as well. Finally, guidelines are presented to aid the reader in developing disclosure policies that will not violate the privacy interests of individual faculty members and will help reduce the institutions exposure to liability.
