Key factors for entrepreneurial success

Francisco Javier Maqueda Lafuente; Anna María Gil Lafuente; Vanesa F. Guzman-Parra; Jaime Gil Lafuente

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to explore the incidence between the actions to be taken by business promoters and the degree or level of success in creating new businesses. Design/methodology/approach – The paper matches data from market research based on a questionnaire sent to Spanish startups (years 2006-2010). The paper uses a methodology that is based on the “forgotten effects model”. Findings – Results show the elements that make up the target objectives are financing needs, marketing actions, continued innovation, and efforts in the areas of internationalization and sustainability. Originality/value – Using the forgotten effects model approach, this research tries to analyze the role that entrepreneurship actions play in the success of a projects objectives, taking into account not only the direct effects but also the indirect objectives.

The Theory of Affinities Applied to the Suppliers’ Sustainable Management

Anna María Gil Lafuente; Luciano Barcellos Paula

Diverse scientific studies emphasize that the dialogue with stakeholders is one of the most important points in the area of sustainability in the companies. From the Theory of Stakeholders we will try to analyze the corporate sustainability and the process of suppliers’ management of a company that owns the code of conduct in accordance with The Ten UN Global Compact Principles. With the accomplishment of an empirical study one tries to know the degree of fulfillment of the code of conduct on the part of the suppliers and the utility of a tool that facilitates decision making by the employer on the issue. To reach the proposed aim we will resort to the Theory of Affinities, across a model who allows the homogeneous group of variables certain levels. We will use basic elements of decision theory, notably the concepts of relation, as the affinities in the families of Moore and its representation through Galois lattices. The results will provide inputs to the theory of affinities bring to the sustainable management of suppliers.

Heavy Moving Averages in exchange rate forecasting

Ernesto Leon Castro; Ezequiel Aviles Ochoa; José M. Merigó-Lindahl; Anna María Gil Lafuente

The paper presents the Heavy Ordered Weighted Moving Average (HOWMA) operator. It is a new aggregation operator that takes the advantage of the moving average to solve time series smoothing problems and the heavy OWA to provide more robust formulation and take into account the expectations of the future scenarios. It includes a wide range of particular cases such as the olympic moving aggregation and centered moving aggregation. The study also includes a new application to forecast the exchange rate USD/MXN combining econometric models and the HOWMA operator.

Forgotten effects and heavy moving averages in exchange rate forecasting

Ezequiel Aviles Ochoa; Ernesto Leon Castro; José M. Merigó Lindahl; Anna María Gil Lafuente

This paper presents the results of using experton, forgotten effects and heavy moving averages operators in three traditional models based purchasing power parity (PPP) model to forecast exchange rate. Therefore, the use of these methods is to improve the forecast error under scenarios of volatility and uncertainty, such as the financial markets and more precise in exchange rate. The heavy ordered weighted moving average weighted average (HOWMAWA) operator is introduced. This new operator includes the weighted average in the usual heavy ordered weighted moving average (HOWMA) operator, considering a degree of importance for each concept that includes the operator. The use of experton and forgotten effects methodology represents the information of the experts in the field and with that information were obtained hidden variables or second degree relations. The results show that the inclusion of the forgotten effects and heavy moving average operators improve our results and reduce the forecast error.

Algorithm applied in the corporate sustainability: an analysis of empirical study on prioritisation of stakeholders

Anna María Gil Lafuente; Luciano Barcellos Paula

According to scientific studies, engaging with all stakeholders or on all issues is neither possible nor desirable. This would go beyond any available resources, and at the same time make it very difficult to adequately respond to stakeholders, leading to frustration. Therefore, the enterprise should try and prioritise its stakeholders and issues to ensure that time, resources and expectations are well managed. Based on stakeholder theory, we discuss the importance of management with stakeholders in the pursuit of sustainability in enterprises. In this paper, we will focus our research on prioritisation of stakeholders through an analysis of empirical study by a consulting firm in Brazil. In this case, the company needs to establish priorities for stakeholders. To achieve this objective, the consultant hired has used fuzzy logic algorithm, applying the P-Latin composition. To complete the study, we present the contributions, the empirical results and conclusions of our investigation.

Pichat’s Algorithm for the Sustainable Regional Analysis Management: Case Study of Mexico

Ingrid Nineth Pinto López; Anna María Gil Lafuente; Guillermo Sánchez Flores

The group of regions with common similarities allow the improvement of its competences management, support its integration processes, as well as strengthen the social and economic development of the regions that form a group. The analysis of regions with multidimensional characteristics, make necessary the application of concepts, models and algorithms that allow the analysis of ambiguous variables. The presented model seeks to contribute to an informed decision making, closer to reality while identifying those regions that because of its characteristics, share common features to relatively higher levels. The goal of this work is to design a process of grouping regions from the analysis of sustainable indicators, this will allow us maximize the resources in amplitude and quantity with the purpose to generate synergies in order to take the maximum advantage of the capacities of development and well-being. To reach such a goal, a methodological approximation based on Pichat’s algorithm is done using sustainable development indicators of each region as a reference and suggesting the degree of similarity among the regions so the determination of similar groups is possible.

Impact of elements that contribute to the public administration for tourism development of determined area

Anna María Gil Lafuente; Young Kyun Oh

This article presents main objective of a series of measures that can be afforded by the public administration to develop a specific tourist area. With the proposed methodology based on theory of the forgotten effects seeks to uncover what kind of help will be more effective and provide greater impact on growth and development of the area in question. This is a study of efforts in the public and private investment that can maximize the impact in the medium and long term.

Forgotten effects in the comparative economic analysis for Spain and Russia in conditions of globalization

Anna María Gil Lafuente; Anna Klimova; Korkmaz Imanov

In this study a very useful mathematical method for obtaining the forgotten effects in the field of economic policy is proposed. Globalization and a high level of data volume are the main reasons of using this tool. Comparative analysis of the exterior economic interests of Spain and Russia is considered.
