Algorithm applied in the identification of stakeholders

Anna M. Gil-Lafuente; Luciano Barcellos Paula

Purpose – This paper aims to focus the research on the identification of stakeholders through an analysis of an empirical study by a consulting firm in Brazil. In this case study, the company needs to identify the stakeholders that can exert some influence in its sphere of activity.Design/methodology/approach – The paper considers the question: to do sustainable business, companies must have good knowledge of all actors with influence in their sphere of activity. This identification of stakeholders is the first step. Based on stakeholder theory, the authors discuss the importance of management with stakeholders in the pursuit of sustainability in business. To achieve this objective, the consultant hired has used fuzzy logic algorithm, applying the theory of clans.Findings – In applying the model through an empirical study, it has been possible to provide a tool based on the use of grouping algorithm that can facilitate decision making by obtaining qualitative data from a dialogue with managers or speciali...

The Theory of Affinities Applied to the Suppliers’ Sustainable Management

Anna María Gil Lafuente; Luciano Barcellos Paula

Diverse scientific studies emphasize that the dialogue with stakeholders is one of the most important points in the area of sustainability in the companies. From the Theory of Stakeholders we will try to analyze the corporate sustainability and the process of suppliers’ management of a company that owns the code of conduct in accordance with The Ten UN Global Compact Principles. With the accomplishment of an empirical study one tries to know the degree of fulfillment of the code of conduct on the part of the suppliers and the utility of a tool that facilitates decision making by the employer on the issue. To reach the proposed aim we will resort to the Theory of Affinities, across a model who allows the homogeneous group of variables certain levels. We will use basic elements of decision theory, notably the concepts of relation, as the affinities in the families of Moore and its representation through Galois lattices. The results will provide inputs to the theory of affinities bring to the sustainable management of suppliers.

DETERMINING THE COMPOSITION OF A PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT FROM A GROUPINGS MODEL

Anna M. Gil-Lafuente; Jaime Gil-Aluja; Luciano Barcellos Paula

Often, in situations of uncertainty in portfolio management, it is difficult to apply the numerical methods based on the linearity principle. When this happens it is possible to use nonnumeric techniques to assess the situations with a non linear attitude. One of the concepts that can be used in these situations is the concept of grouping. In the last thirty years, several studies have tried to give good solutions to the problems of homogeneous groupings. For example, we could mention the Pichat algorithm, the affinities algorithms and several studies developed by the authors of this work. In this paper, we use some topological axioms in order to develop an algorithm that is able to reduce the number of elements of the power sets of the related sets by connecting them to the sets that form the topologies. We will apply this algorithm in the grouping of titles listed in the Stock Exchange or in its dual perspective.

Algorithm applied in the corporate sustainability: an analysis of empirical study on prioritisation of stakeholders

Anna María Gil Lafuente; Luciano Barcellos Paula

According to scientific studies, engaging with all stakeholders or on all issues is neither possible nor desirable. This would go beyond any available resources, and at the same time make it very difficult to adequately respond to stakeholders, leading to frustration. Therefore, the enterprise should try and prioritise its stakeholders and issues to ensure that time, resources and expectations are well managed. Based on stakeholder theory, we discuss the importance of management with stakeholders in the pursuit of sustainability in enterprises. In this paper, we will focus our research on prioritisation of stakeholders through an analysis of empirical study by a consulting firm in Brazil. In this case, the company needs to establish priorities for stakeholders. To achieve this objective, the consultant hired has used fuzzy logic algorithm, applying the P-Latin composition. To complete the study, we present the contributions, the empirical results and conclusions of our investigation.
