Resilience: International Policies, Practices and Discourses | 2014
Annika Skoglund
Sustainable development policies foster resilient subjects, specifically by offering insecurity and climate adaptation to the global South. In contrast, this article presents an analysis of how the overdeveloped subject in the North is seduced to join the social-ecological system, to revalue life and actively spread a certain way of living to everyone. The empirical material consists of a Swedish state–business–citizen conglomerate that collaborates in two CO2-social experiments. By unravelling the details of how a corporatisation of biopolitics enables the becoming of a resilience facilitator, conceptualised as Homo Clima, I illustrate how indispensable this subject is for a mobilisation of moral subjectivities biopolitically. This complements our understanding of how self-regulation is part of resilience-assembling, when some individuals are greatly invested in, both financially and morally. To end, I address the method used to further the discussion on how we may analyse transformations towards resilience in less abstract and more populated ways.
