Directional Filter Banks (DFB) is a method for directional decomposition. It has been used in image enhancement procedure that involved image with many edges. The design of Decimation-Free Directional Filter Bank (DDFB) is made to give a better result for enhancement. However, the design cannot give an adaptive directional decomposition based on input image. In this paper, we proposed a Non-Uniform Decimation-Free Directional Filter Bank (NUDDFB) using Histogram Analysis for Image Enhancement. NUDDFB can build an adaptive directional filter depends on the input image. The result shows that NUDDFB can separate each directional image better than DDFB. The use of this method in image enhancement helps to retain the image from over enhancement.

Augmented reality (AR) technology is useful for treating several psychological problems, including phobias such as fear of flying, agoraphobia, claustrophobia, and phobia to insects and small animals. However, the currently existing applications for therapy of cockroach phobia that uses AR technology are still very dependent towards the presence of markers, which might lessen the feeling of being in an actual scenario from everyday lives. In this paper, we created a system that is able to use everyday objects as a replacement for markers. There are five main processes: getting the live streaming feed from camera, preprocessing in which adaptive threshold was used as the image processing method, extracting the center point of the objects, tracking the objects, and lastly, instantiating cockroaches randomly underneath the objects. The evaluation in this paper includes eight participants that are carefully selected based on their Fear of Spiders Questionnaire (FSQ) score that is translated into Indonesian and modified to accommodate cockroaches instead of spiders. The system is able to induce a small to medium level of anxiety on participants that are measured using Standard Unit of Discomfort scale (SUDs). Meanwhile, this application has a high score for the presence and reality judgment that are measured using Slater-Usoh-Steed Questionnaire (SUS).

In this paper, we propose an automatic image thresholding method based on an index of fuzziness and a fuzzy similarity measure. This work aims at overcoming the limitation of the existing method which is semi-supervised. Using an index of fuzziness, two initial regions of gray levels located at the boundaries of the histogram are defined based on the fuzzy region. Then the threshold point is found by using a fuzzy similarity measure. No prior knowledge of the image is required. Experiments on practical images illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A computer based system for batik design modification using spline and color representation is proposed to create a new batik design from the existing batik design image. The system can be used to support artisan/designer works for drawing motifs and applying color composition, so the design can be seen visually on the screen without having to make a real design. To evaluate the performance of the system, five batik images are used as the input of the system. The experimental results show that the system generates the similar batik design using spline and color representation from the existing batik design image and the user can edit the spline and its color to create new batik design.

Dental radiography meets challenge to classify the dents into the proper class which useful for forensic and biomedical application. This paper proposed a novel method of classification and numbering on posterior dental radiography using support vector machine (SVM) with mesiodistal neck detection. In this method we developed SVM using a nouvelle feature with mesiodistal neck teeth. This feature was used to solve the problem in the dental image which suffered with completeness of whole part of teeth (crown-root). Preprocessing for enhancements included morphological operation, contrast adaptive, and tresholding. Every tooth has been assigned according to universal dental numbering and classified as their sequence order. Our system achieved classification precision of 90 %. This approach is robust and optimal for solving the problem of dental classification.

Detection of Branching in Trabecular Bone Using Multiscale COSFIRE Filter for Osteoporosis Identification

Randy Cahya Wihandika; Agus Zainal Arifin; Anny Yuniarti

Mandibular bone is among the bones which mineral density is reduced due to osteoporosis. Hence, dental panoramic gradiographs have become an alternative solution to identify osteoporosis. Previous study has shown that the number of branching differs between normal people and patients with osteoporosis. Another study has proposed an algorithm called COSFIRE which is able to detect branches in retinal vessel images. However, branch structures in trabecular bone differ from that in retinal vessel images. For that reason, the COSFIRE method alone is considered unable to detect such structures. In this study, we propose multiscale mechanism to detect different size of trabecular branches. Morphological structures in the trabecular bone is first enhanced using the line operator method. Then the branches are detected using COSFIRE. Experiment of the branching detection conducted to 20 images yields an accuracy of 95.25% whereas the experiment of the classification step gives the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 0.95122, 0.26315, and 0.55102, respectively.

Ishardan Ishardan; Darlis Herumurti; Anny Yuniarti

Resize My Image: A mobile app for interactive image resizing using multi operator and interactive genetic algorithm

Anny Yuniarti; Stefanus Anggara; Bilqis Amaliah

In this research a new android app for smartphones to smartly resize images is presented. The smart image resize method was based on a dynamic programming approach that used image edge tangent flow as the energy function to be minimized, known as flow-guided seam carving method. However, a simple but useful interface is needed in a mobile app. Therefore, we developed an interactive approach to image resizing by applying an interactive genetic algorithm. After installing the developed app on the smartphone, we asked test participants to rate the results of this approach. The usability testing results showed that the average score of this approach is higher than that using a single operator.
