Abstract A facile enantioselective route to highly functionalized α,β-unsaturated -δ-lactones has allowed for the synthesis of (+)-isoaltholactone in 6.4% overall yield from furylmethanol. This approach derived its asymmetry by applying Sharpless kinetic resolution on racemic 2-furylmethanol. The resulting pyranone was produced in high enantioexcess and was stereoselectively transformed into (+)-isoaltholactone via a highly diastereoselective epoxidation and a key PPTS catalyzed intramolecular cyclization.

A series of naturally occurring C-7 oxidized abietane diterpenes have been synthesized from racemic ferruginyl methyl ether in high yields. 6-Hydroxyl-5,6-dehydrosugiol (7) can be converted into stable xanthoperol (12) using high temperature. Among the products, the structures of sugiyl methyl ether (2) and 6(-hydroxysugiyl methyl ether (8) were determined by X-ray analysis.

A facile stereoselective synthetic route to (7S,9R)-(+)-bisacumol 1 has been achieved. This novel approach derives its asymmetry by employing asymmetric dihydroxylation and CBS reduction processes. The resulting sesquiterpene 1 was produced with highly enantio- and diastereoselectivity.

ABSTRACT A enantioselective total synthetic route to (+)-13-acteyl-12-hydroxy-podocarpane-8,11,13-triene-7-one 1a and (−)-13-acetyl-12-hydroxy-podocarpane-8,11,13-triene-7-one 1b from (S)-(−)-α-cyclocitral 8a and (R)-(+)-α-cyclocitral 8b was developed.

Facile enantioselective total syntheses of 6R-(+)-goniothalamin 1 and (6R, 7R, 8R)-(+)-goniothalamin oxide 2 were achieved through the Sharpless kinetic resolution of racemic secondary 2- furylmethanol 3 in a short synthetic route.

A stereoselective synthetic route to (+)-D 5-dehydrosugiyl methyl ether 1 was developed from (S)-(-)-α-cyclocitral 6 in which DDQ as a better oxidant for enone was used.
