X-RAYS IN DERMATOLOGY

To the Editor : I am amazed that a man of Dr. Chamberlains status who holds the Professorship of Radiology at Temple University Medical School and who at the time he interviewed newspaper people was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the American Roentgen Ray Society used such poor judgment during his interview. Such poor judgment can only be based on lack of experience and knowledge of the use of ionizing radiations in the treatment of nonmalignant skin diseases or on prejudice. ... It is indeed unfortunate that this has occurred and it is necessary that the statements made by Dr. Chamberlain be challenged because they are not true. I am not prepared to admit that many dermatologists use x-rays excessively and to the point of doing harm.
