The Burnout Syndrome has been considered a public health issue because of the physical and mental health implications on workers, with clear effect on the quality of life at work. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of the Burnout syndrome in elementary school teachers in the city of Joao Pessoa, PB, and its relationship with sociodemographic and labor variables. Results showed that 33.6% of teachers presented high levels of Emotional Exhaustion, 8.3% a high level of Depersonalization, and 43.4% a low level of Professional Achievement. Socio-demographic and labor variables were associated with the dimensions of Burnout. Results indicate the importance of understanding and acknowledging occupational diseases to include teachers in public policy measures for the health and well-being of the category.

From the expansion of his practice, including, in addition to teaching, activities of student care and the mission to ensure the link between the school and community, the teacher became more susceptible to developing the Syndrome of Burnout, occupational disease covered by the Ministry of Health since 1999. One of the institutional responsibility for their diagnosis is the medical expertise. Due the importance of correct Syndrome of Burnout diagnosis, this study aimed to investigate, through the implementation of the questionnaire and medical records consultation, the knowledge of medical expertise from the Medical Board of the João Pessoa city, PB, about this syndrome. The results pointed to the ignorance about legislation and Burnout of Syndrome and to the need for public policies that provide a better preparation of medical experts and better care of the teacher mental health. From the expansion of his practice, including, in addition to teaching, activities of student care and the mission to ensure the link between the school and community, the teacher became more susceptible to developing the Syndrome of Burnout, occupational disease covered by the Ministry of Health since 1999. BACKGROUND The increase in air temperature has been associated with human deaths, some of which are related to cardiovascular dysfunctions, and with the reduction of physical and cognitive performance in humans. OBJECTIVE To analyze the relationship between blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) and the cognitive performance of students who were submitted to temperature changes in classrooms. METHODS The university students answered a survey that was adapted from the Battery of Reasoning Tests over 3 consecutive days at different air temperatures while their thermal state and HR were measured. During those 3 days, BP and HR were evaluated before and after the cognitive test. RESULTS The average and final HR increased at high temperatures; the tests execution time was reduced at high temperatures; and the cognitive tests was related to Mean BP at the beginning of the test, the maximum HR during the test and the air temperature. CONCLUSIONS The cognitive performance of undergraduate students in the field of engineering and technology will increase while performing activities in a learning environment with an air temperature of approximately 23.3°C (according to their thermal perception), if students have an initial MBP of 93.33 mmHg and a 60 bpm HRmax.

An ergonomically ideal environment for bank services needs to be thermally adequate, mainly according to the thermal perceptions of those responsible for the productivity, namely, human beings. This research has made it possible to recognize the relevant thermo-environmental characteristics of these activities and, based on the collected data, to apply the Linear Regression method and Discriminant Analysis exploratory technique to determine the thermal variables that may best represent the employees reported thermal sensations. For this purpose, the variables of thermal balance and sensation of each worker were determined, based on available international standards. It was found that the dry bulb temperature was the one that better represented these preferences. In the comfort situation, 23.79oC was the ideal temperature for these activities to be performed with thermal satisfaction.

This paper presents an investigation hold on a Bank Agency Compensation Department about the correlation between productivity and thermal dissatisfaction indicators, through the use of Pearsons coefficient (r). The criteria for measuring thermal comfort conditions were based on PMV indexes (Predicted Mean Vote), and PPD (Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied), according ISO 7730/1994 norm. Productivity was measured through the use of a computer program developed for running in a UNIX platform. The results show a meaningful correlation between thermal dissatisfaction and productivity, when the central air conditioning system was working satisfactorily.
