The extension to Bernstein algebras of higher order of known results for one order is not trivial. In this paper we give some results in this direction.

Abstract Let A denote an arbitrary absolute valued real algebra. In [Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 11 (1960), 861–866.], Urbanik and Wright showed that if A is commutative, then A has dimension 1 or 2 and is isomorphic to R or C . In this paper we show that if in the previous result we replace the commutativity by the weaker assumption that it is flexible, then A is still finite dimensional, but in this case A has dimension 1, 2, 4 or 8 and is isotopic to R, C, H or C. Moreover, we consider various conditions on A which imply that it is finite dimensional (necessarily of dimension 1, 2, 4 or 8). In fact, we prove that it is the case when one of the following holds: (i) (x, x, x) = 0 for all x ϵ A and there exists in A, a non-zero element, which commutes with all elements of A; (ii) there exists a non-zero element a in A such that a and a2 commute with all elements of A and (x, a, x) = 0 for all x ϵ A.

The notion of a Rees ring was introduced in view of what one calls today the Artin — Rees lemma. In fact, it is the Rees algebra of an ideal of a commutative ring with identity. We give in this paper a number of results which concern the Rees algebra of a module over a commutative ring with identity which also complete those of a previous paper (cf. [7]). In particular, we show that the Rees algebra of a module can be approached, in a sense which is made precise in the paper, through tensor or symmetric flat algebras.

Meson algebras of order 2 have already drawn much attention, and their study has brought plenty of interesting knowledge. This fact motivated the definition and the study of meson algebras of greater order. Unfortunately, these algebras finally proved to be disappointing; probably there is almost nothing to add to the information given in the present article. Almost all meson algebras of order ≥3 are trivial, and the only two cases that give nontrivial algebras, are completely described here.

We extend the concept of the “join” to the case of infinitely many weighted algebras. We study the problem of its uniqueness (up to weighted isomorphism) which gives rise to a natural notion of homogeneous weighted algebras. We show that several classes of weighted algebras coming from genetics are homogeneous and that homogeneity is preserved by duplication. Finally, we examine some well-known weighted algebras satisfying identities, as Bernstein, train, and evolution algebras.

The aim of this paper is to give a general theory of Peirce decomposition in nonassociative algebras. This theory generalizes the theory of associative and alternative algebras and permit also to us, among other results, the characterization of the nilradical of a finite dimensional algebra which is flexible and power-associative.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to give a definitive construction of the duplicate of an algebra using divided powers. This means that no hypothesis is stated on the prime number 2. Of course, if 2 is inversible in the base ring, our construction coincides with the already known duplicate which uses symmetric powers. Moreover, we prove a Whitehead theorem for this duplicate.

This is a review talk on Clifford groups and spin groups in the case of nondegenerate quadratic form over finite generated projective modules. If the quadratic form is singular, it is possible to construct such groups but with some technical complications.
