CIAS: A Comprehensive Identity Authentication Scheme for Providing Security in VANET

Arun Malik; Babita Pandey

Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) is considered as an essential component of Intelligent Transport system. VANET has gained an ample amount of attention from the researchers and automobile industry. Security and privacy are the primary requirements in the successful deployment of vehicular communication in VANET. Lack of security and confidentiality in VANETs is the primary barricade in the successful deployment of VANET. To establish trust within the entities participating in VANET operations is the primary aim of VANET security and play a vital role in prevention of attack in VANET. This paper describes a comprehensive identity authentication scheme (CIAS) based on asymmetric encryption that facilitates the authentication for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and inter RSUs. The proposed scheme is validated by extensive simulations and compared with the related works on the basis of communication overhead (CO), Latency and packet delivery ratio (PDR). The result of simulations shows that proposed authentication scheme outperforms.

Asymmetric encryption based secure and efficient data gathering technique in VANET

Arun Malik; Babita Pandey

Data gathering is big challenging problem in Vehicular ad hoc Network (VANET). To overcome this problem, plenty of data gathering techniques have been proposed. None of the technique provides security in the process of gathering of data from vehicles to RSUs. The primary objective of this paper is to propose a secure as well as efficient data gathering technique that provides security and confidentiality to the gathering of data from vehicles to RSUs and vice versa. Performance of the data gathering technique proposed is evaluated by comparing the proposed technique with the existing data gathering techniques on the basis of message delivery ratio (MDR), average delay and computational overhead. Results of simulation assure that the data gathering technique proposed performs better in comparison to existing data gathering technique.

A Novel Congestion Control Scheme in VANET

Arun Malik; Babita Pandey; Anjuman Gul

The mobile networking has attracted a great numbers of researchers and industries. The Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks is a key to Intelligent Transport System. The recent advances in all fields have led to the advancement in the field of Ad Hoc Networking too. This mobile networking has attracted a great numbers of researchers and industries. This field is getting a huge attention because it has become an active field for research and development which will provide us with safe transport system along with the comfort. The communication between nodes in the VANET can cause congestion due to high frequency beacon messages that are generated by vehicles in an area where density of vehicles is very high in order to inform the neighboring nodes about the current traffic status. Congestion can also take place due to inefficient use of bandwidth; high transmit power, high vehicle density, changing topology of vehicles in the VANET network. A number of congestion control schemes have been designed to make the system efficient and robust but there are a lot many problems that still exist in the Vehicular Ad hoc Systems. In this paper we have proposed a congestion control algorithm for VANET’S which shows a better performance than existing algorithms in terms of various parameters.

An Efficient and Reliable Data Gathering Protocol Based on RSU Identification

Arun Malik; Babita Pandey

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) can act as an essential platform for providing various types of safety and non-safety applications by collecting the data sensed by the vehicles during their journey. To collect data in an efficient manner exclusive of network congestion is a very challenging task. In this paper, an efficient data gathering protocol based on Road side unit (RSU) identification approach is proposed for collecting the essential data sensed by the vehicle during their journey in an efficient manner without network congestion. The proposed protocol is able to reduce the communication overhead and average delay and capable of increasing the packet delivery ratio. Moreover, the proposed protocol is compared with the RSU activated data gathering protocol based on beacon broadcast. With the help of simulation results it has been identified that the proposed data gathering protocol considerably improves the efficiency of data collection as compared to RSU activated data gathering protocol based on beacon broadcast on the basis of communication overhead, average delay and packet delivery ratio.

Performance analysis of enhanced authentication scheme using re-key in VANET

Arun Malik; Babita Panday

Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) provides services to vehicles on the road. While moving on road it is possible that some intruder can enter into network and hinder the normal operation of the VANET network. One of the prominent services is to assure security of vehicles from attacks incurred due to these intruders. Therefore, an authentication mechanism is required that will restrict the entry of malicious nodes in the network. Number of authentication protocols is being used in VANET such as Digital Certificate Authentication (DCA), Pairing, and Intermediary Re-encryption (IRE), and many more. From the existing ones, IRE works well in terms of preventing attacks from unauthorized users in the network. Still IRE is susceptible to attacks like eavesdropping, denial of service attack, masquerading. To overcome the above stated attacks an Enhanced Intermediary Re-encryption (EIRE) method for authentication is proposed in this paper. The improved EIRE algorithm will reduce overhead packets in the network and hence will reduce delay, jitter, and increases throughput and packet delivery ratio by removing attacks from the network.
