New Advances of the Research on Cloud Simulation

Based on the research fruits of Cloud Simulation Platform [1], this paper expounds the latest research results of our team in cloud simulation, including the further research on the technology content and features of cloud simulation, architecture and service patterns of the cloud simulation system, technology system and several improved key technologies ( individuation virtual desktop technology, multi-users oriented dynamic building technology of virtual simulation environment, fault-tolerant migration technology for simulation resources, high performance cloud simulation supported co-simulation platform technology ) of cloud simulation and typical application demonstration system. The primary research and practice show that the proposed latest research results can better support “cloud simulation” pattern, which users can access services of simulation resource and capability on demand anytime and anywhere through network and cloud simulation platform, to accomplish varied activities in the whole simulation life-circle. Finally, this paper gives the prospect of the future work of cloud simulation.

Research and Applications of Cloud Manufacturing in China

This chapter leads to the achievements of research and applications in Cloud Manufacturing (CMfg) carried out by the authors’ team. First of all, the meaning of Big Manufacturing is given, and the challenges and strategies for manufacturing industries as well as the content and development of manufacturing informatization are analyzed. Then the definition, concept model, system architecture, technologies, typical technical characteristics, and service object and content of CMfg are put forward. Moreover, discussions are shown to prove that CMfg is a new paradigm and approach to realize manufacturing informatization, which materializes and extends Cloud Computing in the manufacturing domain. The current status of the technologies, applications, and industries for CMfg in China are presented. Concerns are mostly focused on the 12 key technologies for the CMfg System (also called Manufacturing Cloud), including system overall technology, sensing technology for manufacturing resource and capability, virtualization and service technology for manufacturing resource and capability, construction and management technology for virtual manufacturing environment, operation technology for virtual manufacture environment, evaluation technology for virtual manufacturing environment, trusted service technology for virtual manufacturing, management of knowledge, model and data, pervasive human–computer interaction technology, application technology of service platform, informatized manufacturing technology system, and product service technology. The academic research results of the authors’ team are presented. Furthermore, four typical CMfg cases which have been successfully implemented in group enterprises and mid-small enterprise clusters are described as well as cases introducing smart manufacturing into smart city. Finally, future works and development prospect for CMfg are raised.

In this paper, we present a swarm intelligence design technology based on a workshop of meta-synthetic engineering, including the architecture, the decision-making process of swarm intelligence design based on a meta-synthetic workshop, and the design resource delivery technology involved in the design. We conclude the paper with a discussion of future research.

Research and application on ontology-based layered cloud simulation service description framework

Cloud simulation system improves the ability of current network-based M&S in on-demand simulation and massive-user service. The share of multi-granularity resources and dynamic establishment of simulation services in Cloud Simulation raise new challenges to the Simulation Service Description Framework (SSDF). An ontology-based layered SSDF (OLSSDF) was proposed towards those challenges in cloud simulation, which includes the layered architecture of cloud simulation service and the ontology semantics of each layer in the framework which were defined and formalized in OWL-S. The OLSSDF for cloud simulation was applied and in the description of simulation services in certain cloud simulation system prototype of aero plane. The primary research and application show that the OLSSDF oriented to cloud simulation, which describes cloud simulation services in both attribute-semantic and model-semantic, adapts well to the various multi-granularity simulation resources and facilitates the intelligent discovery and automatic combination of simulation services in the cloud simulation mode.

A Study on the Comparison of “Internet+” Paradigm and Means and the Analysis and Evaluation of Its Typical Development Path

Taking Internet as carrier and adopting emerging information and communication technology, intelligent science and technology, “Internet+” paradigm and means are emerging and applied to the paradigm innovation, business optimization and efficiency improvement. In this paper, comparative analysis is firstly conducted on the “Internet+” paradigm and means from the perspective of paradigm, means and support technology to propose that Smart cloud manufacturing (Smart CMfg) is a scheme to match Chinese national conditions and competitive advantages. From the perspective of model-based system engineering, the incentive and feedback model of manufacturing industry development is then proposed to discuss the development path and mechanism of the transformation and upgrading of Chinese Smart CMfg-based manufacturing industry. Finally, this article demonstrates that the operation of the incentive and feedback model of manufacturing industry development may form massive cloud enterprise network which could support the upgrading and development of Chinese manufacturing industry.

A Self-adaptive Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm for Multivariable PID Controller’s Optimal Tuning

To insure the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system has good system response and anti-jamming capability under no decoupling, this paper proposed a self-adaptive shuffled frog leaping algorithm to solve the multivariable PID controller’s optimal tuning problem. First, the mathematical description of optimal tuning problem of multivariable PID controller is given. Second, a modified SFL with a parameter adaptive adjustment strategy in the basis of convergence analysis is proposed to enhance SFL’s global searching ability and to improve its searching efficiency. Finally, a classical simulation example proposed by Wood and Berry is used to compare the performance of our modified SFL with SFL proposed by Thai and wPSO proposed by Shi, and the optimal results of PI/PID controller demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm.

Research on High-Performance Modeling and Simulation for Complex Systems

The rapid development of high-performance modeling and simulation for complex systems (HPMSCS) is motivated by the application demands to support two types of users: (1) the high-end M&S users involved in complex systems of systems development and (2) users that require high-performance simulation cloud service on demand to utilize three types of simulation—mathematical, man-in-loop, and hardware-in-loop/embedded simulation. Those application demands raise great challenges to traditional M&S technology. This chapter examines these challenges and presents solution strategies developed by our research team.

Research and Application on SBA Life-Cycle Management Technology of Complex Products System

Based on the research fruits of paper [1], the author introduces some new technologies into SBA collaborative supporting environment, including network technology (Internet / Web Service / Grid Computing), Artificial Intelligence and XMSF technology. Firstly, the author states a new integrated and intelligent infrastructure of SBA collaborative supporting environment which can fulfill the features and demands mentioned above; then some solved key technologies are explained in detail according to the latest research; at the end, good conclusions are verified by elementary application, which are, (1) the pre-setup prototype of SBA collaborative supporting environment are featured by networktized, intelligent, collaborative and integrated, as well as its good openness, security, extensibility and general, which can support the multidisciplinary team to collaboratively carry out the virtual R&D of complex products. (2) Combined with SBA integrated modeling, Hall of Workshop of Metasynthetic Engineering, Life-cycle cost model and integration framework, the environment supports multi-location, multi-group, multi-disciplinary simulation applications, SOS (System of Systems) and qualitative-quantitative analysis, and is also supportive to the management, share and reuse of various simulation resources, which are very suitable for the SBA procedure of complex product.
