MVC model, struts framework and file upload issues in web applications based on J2EE platform

Jaroslaw Wojciechowski; Bartosz Sakowicz; Krzysztof Dura; Andrzej Napieralski

This work describes the web applications based on the J2EE platform indicating the model-view-controller (MVC) model, struts framework and file upload issues. The development of internet technology and the will to standardize the mechanisms used in implementation of internet applications was the basis background for the development of J2EE platform. The project of international office TUL internet service is an application based on the above mentioned environment. The specification of the project is closely connected with the activities and needs of the staff of the international office. The article presents the use of MVC model on J2EE platform on an example of open source Apache/Tomcat server and the database management system MySql.

Object Oriented Application Cooperation Methods with Relational Database (ORM) based on J2EE Technology

Piotr Ziemniak; Bartosz Sakowicz; Andrzej Napieralski

This article describes cooperation methods of object oriented applications with relational databases. Currently there exist many technologies supporting object-relational mapping (ORM) for J2EE technology. The authors made comparison of three popular ones: Hibernate, JPOX and JPA in case of their performance and learning speed.

Fast evolution of high-performance cameras in recent years has made them promising tools for observing transient and fast events in large-scale scientific experiments. Complex experiments, such as ITER, take advantage of high-performance imaging system consisting of several fast cameras working in the range of visible and infrared light. The paper presents a first implementation of complete image acquisition system built on the basis of MTCA.4 architecture, which is dedicated for operation with high-resolution fast cameras equipped with Camera Link interface. Image data from the camera are received by the frame grabber card and transmitted to the host via PCIe interface. The modular structure of MTCA.4 architecture allows connecting several cameras to a single MTCA chassis. The system supports precise synchronization with the time reference using Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588). The software support for the system includes low-level drivers and API libraries for all components and high-level EPICS-based environment for system control and monitoring.

Review of the Usefulness of Various Rotational Seismometers with Laboratory Results of Fibre-Optic Ones Tested for Engineering Applications

Leszek R. Jaroszewicz; Anna Kurzych; Zbigniew Krajewski; Pawel Marc; Jerzy K. Kowalski; Piotr Bobra; Zbigniew Zembaty; Bartosz Sakowicz; Robert Jankowski

Starting with descriptions of rotational seismology, areas of interest and historical field measurements, the fundamental requirements for rotational seismometers for seismological and engineering application are formulated. On the above basis, a review of all existing rotational seismometers is presented with a description of the principles of their operation as well as possibilities to fulfill formulated requirements. This review includes mechanical, acoustical, electrochemical and optical devices and shows that the last of these types are the most promising. It is shown that optical rotational seismometer based on the ring-laser gyroscope concept is the best for seismological applications, whereas systems based on fiber-optic gyroscopes demonstrate parameters which are also required for engineering applications. Laboratory results of the Fibre-Optic System for Rotational Events & Phenomena Monitoring using a small 1-D shaking table modified to generate rotational excitations are presented. The harmonic and time-history tests demonstrate its usefulness for recording rotational motions with rates up to 0.25 rad/s.

The laboratory investigation of the innovative sensor for torsional effects in engineering structures’ monitoring

A. Kurzych; J. K. Kowalski; Bartosz Sakowicz; Z. Krajewski; Leszek R. Jaroszewicz

Abstract The main objective of this work is to characterize the performance of an interferometric fibre sensor which has been designed in order to register rotational phenomena, both in seismological observatories and engineering constructions. It is based on a well-known Sagnac effect which enables to detect one-axis rotational motions in a direct way and without any reference system. The presented optical fibre sensor – FOSREM allows to measure a component of rotation in a wide range of signal amplitude form 10–8 rad/s to 10 rad/s, as well as frequency from 0 Hz to the upper frequency from 2.56 Hz to 328.12 Hz. The laboratory investigation of our system indicated that it keeps theoretical sensitivity equal to 2·10–8 rad/s/Hz1/2 and accuracy no less than 3·1–8 to 1.6·10–6 rad/s in the above mentioned frequency band. Moreover, system size that equals 0.36×0.36×0.16 m and opportunity to remotely control the system via Internet by special server make FOSREM a mobile and autonomous device.

Comprehensive Approach to Web Applications Testing and Performance Analysis

Jan Murlewski; Jaroslaw Wojciechowski; Bartosz Sakowicz; Andrzej Napieralski

Writing a high quality code with additional unit tests is labor-intensive work. Additionally many developers perceive that writing supplementary pieces of code for testing purposes is nuisance or what is even worse poorly written tests might mislead developers in a quality of software. The role of software testing is even more important in projects driven by large developers teams, where changes made by one of them might have severe impact on the quality and correctness of the packages developed by others. However, unit testing is one of the most accepted approaches to increasing the accuracy and quality of software. In this paper we present a comprehensive approach to testing Web application with JUnit framework.

Aircraft Control System Application based on Apache Struts MVC Framework

Paweł Olejnik; Jan Murlewski; Bartosz Sakowicz; Andrzej Napieralski

The article presents the aircraft control system application developed in one of the most common and modern Java based frameworks - Apache Struts. The other objective is to show why this technology is compliant with MVC model and how should the developer properly divide his Web application into smaller parts, making his product easier to modify, maintain and understand.

Life Cycle Management -- Distributed Web-based Software Development with Evolutionary Programming and Stochastic Optimization

Bartosz Sakowicz; George J. Anders

This article is an extension of the work presented earlier, which compared and analyzed the economics of alternative maintenance plans. The previous approach has been improved by an application of a genetic algorithm. The system is introduced as a distributed web-based software application. The methodology based on combining evolutionary programming with Monte Carlo simulations is described and illustrated by a numerical example involving analysis of the optimal timing of new investments for refurbishment of a large steam generating unit
