Clustering algorithms for bank customer segmentation

Danuta Zakrzewska; Jan Murlewski

Market segmentation is one of the most important area of knowledge-based marketing. In banks, it is really a challenging task as data bases are large and multidimensional. In the paper we consider cluster analysis, which is the methodology, the most often applied in this area. We compare clustering algorithms in cases of high dimensionality with noise. We discuss using three algorithms: density based DBSCAN, k-means and based on it two-phase clustering process. We compare algorithms concerning their effectiveness and scalability. Some experiments with exemplary bank data sets are presented.

Comprehensive Approach to Web Applications Testing and Performance Analysis

Jan Murlewski; Jaroslaw Wojciechowski; Bartosz Sakowicz; Andrzej Napieralski

Writing a high quality code with additional unit tests is labor-intensive work. Additionally many developers perceive that writing supplementary pieces of code for testing purposes is nuisance or what is even worse poorly written tests might mislead developers in a quality of software. The role of software testing is even more important in projects driven by large developers teams, where changes made by one of them might have severe impact on the quality and correctness of the packages developed by others. However, unit testing is one of the most accepted approaches to increasing the accuracy and quality of software. In this paper we present a comprehensive approach to testing Web application with JUnit framework.

Aircraft Control System Application based on Apache Struts MVC Framework

Paweł Olejnik; Jan Murlewski; Bartosz Sakowicz; Andrzej Napieralski

The article presents the aircraft control system application developed in one of the most common and modern Java based frameworks - Apache Struts. The other objective is to show why this technology is compliant with MVC model and how should the developer properly divide his Web application into smaller parts, making his product easier to modify, maintain and understand.

Query Optimization in Grid Databases

Jan Murlewski; T. Kowalski; R. Adamus; Bartosz Sakowicz; Andrzej Napieralski

This paper discusses methods for query execution and optimization in object-oriented grid databases. The queries for distributed databases have become even more complex. This cause a difficulty for query execution and optimization process, which requires advanced algorithms and techniques to reduce processing and communication cost. This paper gives the outline of distributed data processing, which is now the subject of our study and development.

JWay - Model-Driven J2EE Application Framework

Bartosz Sakowicz; Jan Murlewski; A. Labus; Andrzej Napieralski

Article presents concepts of Web application framework, based on model-driven approach, with high usage of code generation tools and application layout templates. It describes frameworks architecture, and typical development lifecycle when its used. Developed solution bases on open source libraries and frameworks such as Hibernate, Spring, Web Work and XDoclet. Due to implemented ready-to-use modules and model-driven architecture the framework allows for speeding-up development of internet applications and helps with continuous integration process.
