This chapter analyses the consequences of broad reform packages in Italy and Germany, using simulations of the Euro Area and Global Economy (EAGLE) model. The simulations show that reform can cause significantly higher growth in both countries. The first year impact on the level of GDP is 0.7% in both countries. Five years after the start of the reform, the GDP level is 2.5% (3.8%) higher in Germany (Italy). The overall higher impact in Italy is due to the bigger gap with the best performers. In both countries higher TFP and investment efficiency accounts for most of the GDP gains.
