This research aims to know the enjoyment, learning and intensity level perception in Physical Education lessons during a CrossFit Educational Component and the relationship among gender and educational level. In order to that, a total of 104 secondary students whose ages vary from 12 to 16 years old have filled in two questionnaires about enjoyment, learning and effort perception. The results have shown high levels of enjoyment, effort and learning perception in the students thought CrossFit practice. Thus, boys perceive higher enjoyment and intensity than girls, and it has found that students in upper secondary perceive physical education lessons as more intense and less fun.

Game Performance and Length of Rally in Professional Padel Players

Javier Courel-Ibáñez; Bernardino Javier Sánchez Alcaraz Martínez; Jerónimo Cañas

Abstract The purpose of this study was to analyse differences in rally length considering attack effectiveness, a players’ location and a game outcome in professional padel players. A total of 1527 rallies from 10 male matches of the 2013 Masters Finals of the World Padel Tour were registered through systematic observation. Data treatment included non-parametric mean comparisons (Mann-Withney and Kruskal-Wallis tests), and association analyses (crosstabs and Chi square analysis). In overall, 40% of unforced errors were made within the first 4 s of the rally, over 50% of points were scored between the 5th and 11th s, and 30% of forced errors occurred after the 11th –s of the rally. Hence, the ability to score in rallies of over 11 s duration and not making unforced errors within the first 4 s contributed to the rally outcome. More specifically, winners played longer rallies compared to losers (10.42 ± 7.77 s vs. 8.42 ± 6.43 s); particularly at the net, when scoring from the baseline (11.04 ± 7.64 s vs. 8.90 ± 5.41 s) and making forced (8.86 ± 7.44 s vs. 6.86 ± 6.24 s) and unforced errors (11.91 ± 9.47 s vs. 8.33 ± 6.92 s). Such knowledge may have implications in the design and structure of specific training programmes for padel players according to competition requirements.

A total of 77 participants (43 men and 34 women) from the Autonomous Community of Extremadura (Spain) were surveyed. The validated Spanish version of the revised Motives for Physical Activity Measure (MPAM-R) was used. Calculations were performed to compare means through a one-factor ANOVA to study differences within each gender, and the Student t-test was used to ascertain the differences between men and women. The results reveal differences in the reasons for practicing paddle tennis within females in relation to the age range, practice time, days of practice and level of play. What stand out are the high scores given to competition (F = 8.677; R 2 adj = 0.48) and the social aspect (F = 4.253; R 2 adj = 0.28) in women over the age of 40, and to fitness/health in players who have been practicing between 6 months and three years (F = 23.553; R 2 adj = 0.73). Differences were also found between men and women, and the differences in the reasons why practitioners with less than 6 months of experience play are particularly prominent. These results provide relevant information on the reasons why people practice paddle tennis and can be useful when developing action plans that encourage adherence to the sport, improved health and quality of life, preventing the abandonment of physical activity and sedentarism, particularly in adults over the age of 35.
