In this paper, performance analysis of an induction motor drive employing a loss minimization algorithm (LMA) is presented. As the induction motors are not designed to impart high efficiency under partial loading conditions, proposed LMA is used to improve the efficiency under such load conditions. For the efficiency improvement LMA uses the rotor flux as a control variable. Mathematical model of induction motor in field-oriented frame, including proposed loss model is derived. The complete drive system is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software for different operating conditions. Simulation results obtained shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in partial loading conditions.

This paper presents an analysis made on the performance of a Brushless DC motor drive for electric vehicle application powered by two different energy sources. Fuel cells are used to supply the power to the drive. Li-ion battery is also used to supply additional power required in transient states. The drive is tested under motoring as well as regenerative operating conditions. PID controller is used in a speed control loop for better control. Complete model of the drive is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink Software. The hybrid sources are connected through a DC–DC bidirectional converter connected with a VSI.

In this paper a new approach of generating the Pulse width modulation (PWM) signals which are to be used in various power electronics application like power converters and inverters is presented. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) triggers the gate terminals of the power electronic semiconductor devices like thyristors, Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTS), Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFET) etc. which are used as switches for voltage regulation. The pulses are generated using hardware description language (HDL) which is suitable for usage in Spartan-3E Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) board which is used as high performance controller in vector control of induction motor. Simulation is done in Model Sim 6.2b environment and results are obtained validated with register transfer level (RTL) schematic.

Speed sensorless induction motor drives are gaining popularity as they provide cost effective solutions with high performance delivery. Model Reference Adaptive System strategy has been extensively used for speed estimation in particular to the induction motors for developing speed sensorless drives. In this paper an exhaustive literature review on the various types of MRAS speed estimators available in the literature is presented to provide a state of art knowledge to the researchers working in this field.

In this paper study on a photovoltaic system done with a developed simulation model consisting of a maximum power point tracker is presented. The characteristics of the developed model were compared with commercially available PV module after simulation under different radiation and temperature conditions. For extracting the maximum power from the Photovoltaic array, a Perturbation and Observation based MPPT technique is developed. The developed model of MPPT effectively extracts the maximum power from the PV panel. The complete system is developed using a MATLAB/Simulink GUI environment.

In this paper a high performance induction motor drive without speed sensor is investigated. The rotor flux oriented indirect vector control scheme is used for obtaining high performance. In order to eliminate the speed sensor, a MRAS based speed estimator is designed for gathering the rotor speed information. Also a simple but effective loss minimization algorithm is integrated to calculate the optimal flux for efficiency improvement of the drive. Complete simulation model is developed in Simulink/MATLAB software. The performance of the developed system is analyzed with different operating conditions.
