Urethane-Acrylates as Main Components of Lacquers for Protective Coating of Some Materials

Abstract The synthesis of urethane-acrylic UV-cured resins intended for application as protective coatings for optical fibers. The utility of these compositions for protective soft, hardness and intermediate coatings of optical fibers was checked and confirmed under manufacturing conditions.

Co-crystal formation between 2-amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine and new p-xylylene-bis(thioacetic) acid

Novel p-xylylene-bis(thioacetic) acid (p-XBTA) and its co-crystals with 2-amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (DMP) have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis methods (TG/DSC). Depending on the crystallization conditions, three different multicomponent crystal forms have been isolated with various chemical compositions and stoichiometries of the co-formers. The ATR-FTIR spectra of the co-crystals display the stretching vibration bands for the co-formers with associated shifts confirming the formation of new phases. DSC and TG were used to reveal the relative stabilities of new solids compared to those of the co-formers.

New complexes of 4-[(4-fluorophenyl)amino]-4-oxobut-2-enoic acid with selected transition metal ions: Synthesis, thermal, and magnetic properties

Complexes of 4-[(4-fluorophenyl)amino]-4-oxobut-2-enoic acid, HL, with Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Nd(III), Gd(III), and Er(III) were synthesized and characterized by various physico-chemical methods: elemental analysis, FT-IR, TG, DTG, DSC, TG/FT-IR, XRF, XRD, and magnetic measurements using the Gouy’s method and a SQUID-VSM magnetometer. The complexes were found to be hydrates (except Er(III) complex) containing 1 to 4 molecules of water. The carboxylate groups acted as bidentate ligands.

Using polyurethane acrylates as the polymeric protective coats in optical fiber technology

A method of preparation of urethane-acrylic oligomers was elaborated. They were applied as the main components of a composition, which harden within a short time under the influence of irradiation with UV light. The following substances were used to the synthesis: tolylene, isophorone and hexylene diisocyanates, oligo(oxypropylene)diol, triethylene and dipropylene glycols, hydroxyethyl and hydroxypropyl methacrylates as well as some alkylene acrylates and methacrylates as active diluents. The physicochemical and mechanical properties ofthe received compositions were determined before the hardening process and soon after it. It was found out that the polyurethane-acrylates are characterised by a considerable mechanical durability and a high adhesion against various materials, which makes them to be preferably used as the protective coats for the optical fibres.
