Analysis of the efficiency of port container terminals with the use of the Data Envelopment Analysis method of relative productivity evaluation

Abstract The article presents a method for evaluating the efficiency of port container terminals. The research was conducted for nine European terminals which use different handling technologies. The terminals have been divided due to the level of automation of transport processes. In the efficiency research DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method is applied, that was previously used in studies of the relative productivity in the industry. This method allows you to multicriteria process analysis based on the properly selected production system model processing input parameters on output. Conclusions from analysis can be a ground for making a decision on organizational or investment issues.

Analysis of the intermodal transport efficiency in the Central and Eastern Europe

Summary The paper focuses on the problem of the efficiency of the intermodal transport system. Among the factors determining the transport system the key factors of the intermodal transport development in the Central and Eastern Europe were selected. The analysis included: intermodal transport units (ITU), means of transport and transhipment technologies, as well as organization conditions of intermodal connections. In addition, the costs structure of the intermodal delivery was analysed and its impact on the profitability of the whole supply chain. Observations have led to a number of detailed reflections and those are the basis of the following conclusions and recommendations of a general nature related to the region of the Central and Eastern Europe. Sažetak Rad se bavi problemom ucinkovitosti intermodalnog transportnog sustava. Među cimbenicima koji određuju transportni sustav odabrani su kljucni cimbenici razvoja intermodalnog transporta u Srednjoj i Istocnoj Europi. Analiza je ukljucila intermodalne transportne jedinice (ITU), tehnologije transporta i pretovara, kao i uvjete organizacije intermodalnih veza. Osim toga, analizirana je struktura troskova intermodalne isporuke, kao i njihov utjecaj na profitabilnost cijelog lanca opskrbe. Promatranja su dovela do brojnih detaljnih razmisljanja te do sljedecih opcih zakljucaka i preporuka koji se odnose na Srednju i Istocnu Europu.

Strength Analysis of Shipping Container Floor with Gooseneck Tunnel under Heavy Cargo Load

Currently, guidelines for safely loading shipping containers with heavy cargo in the gooseneck tunnel region do not exist. This work investigates the influence of the construction type of the gooseneck tunnel on the strength of the floor of the shipping container. The main objective is to develop guidelines for loading shipping containers with heavy cargo in the gooseneck tunnel region. This paper investigates strength of the floor using finite element method. The finite element analysis shows how the containers floor responds in the given loading scenarios.

Qualitative Importance Measures of Systems Components - a New Approach and its Applications

The paper presents an improved methodology of analysing the qualitative importance of components in the functional and reliability structures of the system. We present basic importance measures, i.e. the Birnbaum’s structural measure, the order of the smallest minimal cut-set, the repetition count of an i-th event in the Fault Tree and the streams measure. A subsystem of circulation pumps and fuel heaters in the main engine fuel supply system of a container vessel illustrates the qualitative importance analysis. We constructed a functional model and a Fault Tree which we analysed using qualitative measures. Additionally, we compared the calculated measures and introduced corrected measures as a tool for improving the analysis. We proposed scaled measures and a common measure taking into account the location of the component in the reliability and functional structures.
