Among several kinds of high-speed access network technologies, wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) is the most suitable for the increasing bandwidth requirements in the future. In this paper, we propose overlay WDM-PON which uses multicast and virtual local area network (VLAN) technologies for the integration of services such as Internet surfing, voice-over Internet protocol (VoIP) and video on demand (VoD). In addition, shared channel based performance evaluations demonstrate operations and advantages of overlay WDM-PON using OPNET

This letter proposes a new adaptive power management mechanism (APM 2 ) which takes into account the remaining energy in an IEEE 802.16e system. Benefits of the mechanism are the reduction of frame response delay in a state with sufficient remaining energy, and an increase in the life of a station in a state of insufficient remaining energy. An analytical model for sleep mode operation is developed, and the proposed mechanism is validated by computer simulation.

This paper proposes a novel MAC protocol adopting time division duplex (TDD) technology for extending total subscribers at the expense of downstream bandwidth in WDM/Ethernet passive optical network (WE-PON). To compensate sacrificed downstream bandwidth, we employ an efficient threshold decision and dynamic bandwidth (DBA) algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed MAC protocol improves queueing delay, link utilization under asynchronous traffic conditions.

The distinctive features of OBS affect transport protocols which take in charge of end to end transmission. This paper evaluates the performance of the transport protocols in OBS networks under how to be assembled. We present the throughput for 1) coexisted TCP bursts and UDP bursts, and 2) bursts containing TCP and UDP packets.

In this paper, we propose a novel MAC protocol adopting time division duplex (TDD) technology, which can extend total subscribers for WDM/Ethernet passive optical network (WE-PON) at the expense of downstream bandwidth. To compensate sacrificed downstream bandwidth, we employ an efficient threshold decision and dynamic bandwidth (DBA) algorithm that maximize protocol performance. For reliable performance validation, it is simulated using OPNET under the various kinds of network parameters. Simulation results show that novel MAC protocol achieves a substantial improvement in queueing delay, queue size and link utilization
