This paper presents a study of a broadband dielectric antenna performed through numerical modelling and experimental verification. Upon understanding of the operating principle of the prototype antenna, an optimised design has been demonstrated to provide an even wider impedance bandwidth.

This paper presents a study on a broadband DRA using a new feed technique developed at Antenova Ltd, UK. The DRA is designed to operate at 2.4GHz for IEEE802.11b/g applications and has a length of only 0.12λ. Characteristics of the prototype DRA are assessed using both a Finite Integration Technique simulation and experimental measurements.

This paper presents a physical-level study on improving cellular-network system capacity by using the concept of semi-smart antennas. Practical implementation of the semi-smart antenna technology imposes several technical and environmental requirements on the antenna design. Therefore, novel cylindrically-conformal antenna array has been designed and tested. The new design is simple, robust, light and small in size (low profile), and most importantly, operates efficiently in providing dynamic radiation coverage in the azimuth plane. In comparison to the typical smart-antenna approach, semi-smart antenna technology has proven to be of much lower complexity and has minimal impact on the cellular system architecture.

Having gained insights into the operation of a single band dielectric resonator antenna working at 2.4 GHz, a dual-band dielectric resonator antenna is proposed to operate at both 2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz for IEEE802.11a/b/g applications, based on a novel feeding method. Characteristics of the prototype antennas are assessed using both finite integration technique simulation and experimental measurement.

This paper presents an optimised design of a broadband dielectric loaded planar m ple, the design is optimised to achieve a smaller dielectric size and an even wider impedance bandwidth. The bandwidth of the optimized antenna is up to 63%, covering four frequency bands, DCS 1800, PCS 1900, WCDMA 2100 and IEEE802.11 2400, using a smaller dielectric (ceramic) pellet, which is only 70% of the original one.
