Does the Relationship between Retained Mandibular Third Molar and Mandibular Angle Fracture Exist? An Assessment of Three Possible Causes

The objective of this study is to discuss problems associated with dental retention through three clinical cases of mandible fractures related to the presence of retained lower third molars, emphasizing the possibility of mandible fractures resulting from this or from the extraction procedure. The three evaluated patients had a fracture in the mandible angle. The third molars were present in all the cases, as was the relationship of the fracture with the teeth. After evaluating the three cases and reviewing literature, it is believed that the presence of the retained lower third molars and the surgical procedures for their extraction increase the risk of mandible angle fractures.

Avaliação perioperatória de indivíduos em quimioterapia com necessidade de intervenção cirúrgica odontológica / Perioperative evaluation of chemotherapy patients requiring surgical intervention

A quimioterapia e uma modalidade de tratamento antineoplasico que alem de promover sua acao sob as celulas cancerigenas, exerce tambem efeito nas celulas do sistema hematopoietico causando alteracoes hematologicas. O conhecimento sobre o momento em que esses efeitos colaterais estao presentes e suas implicacoes clinicas sao necessarios quando os individuos em quimioterapia necessitam de intervencao cirurgica odontologica. O objetivo deste artigo e realizar uma revisao sobre os topicos referentes as alteracoes no hemograma no preparo cirurgico bucal dos individuos submetidos a QT em estagio de Nadir. As consideracoes finais dessa revisao apontam que a cirurgias orais em individuos sob quimioterapia sao exequiveis, desde que se indique corretamente o procedimento cirurgico atraves da interpretacao do hemograma completo e da avaliacao do momento da intervencao cirurgica de acordo com o intervalo do ciclo de quimioterapia, a fim de evitar procedimentos cirurgicos durante o estagio de Nadir. Carotid-Cavernous Fistula as a Complication of Panfacial Fracture: Case Report 11 Years after the Surgery

The carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) is a rare complication in patients victimized by craniofacial trauma. It involves multidisciplinary medical action. Owing to its potential complications, it is essential that maxillofacial surgery and neurosurgery specialists diagnose this condition so that appropriate treatment can be performed. The authors present a report of a case 11 years after the surgery.
