The aim of this research is the application of the Method of Organizational Congruencies before and after the substitution of organic solvents with vegetable agents for the cleaning of an offset printing machine in order to assess the organizational changes. A solvent-free process is the goal of the Subsprint Project (Technology Transfer Program of the European Community). This study shows how human and environmental health is improved by using vegetable agents, though this change may lead to some other organizational constraints such as an increase of the time needed, monotony, and repetitiveness of the technical actions involved. The authors underline that the knowledge of the impact of the new technology on health helps a better understanding of the resistance to the change and its further amelioration.

Work-life balance is one of the current issues within the academic, political, and managerial debate. An article discussed in a TAO Research Programs seminar held in June 2015 at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, suggests a critical interpretation of the mainstream literature and its related controversial results in terms of work-life reconciliation practices. The article also provides an alternative analytical framework based on Bruno Maggi’s organization theory, Norbert Elias’ theory of time, and Amartya Sen’s theory of justice. Scholars from different universities and disciplines contribute with comments on the notions of time, justice, organization and the proposed interpretative framework as well.

Storie di imprese (TAO Digital Library, 2010), dedicated to the organizational transformations of five enterprises (Fiat Auto, Finmeccanica, Ciba Specialty chemicals, Zurich, Poste Italiane) during the 2000-2010 decade, stimulated a wide debate. This publication, which collects the commentaries and discussions of three seminar that took place in different Universities with the participation of scholars from different disciplines, continues the reflection about the crucial question: How do enterprises change?

What lessons can be drawn from the “epic history” of asbestos? How this emblematic case can help the reflection on prevention in the workplace? The subjects of primary prevention, risk management, laws and regulation protecting safety and health in the workplace are discussed from different points of view, such as history of medicine, epidemiology, occupational and preventive medicine, labour law, organization theory, science methodology. These collected papers are aimed at proposing prevention strategies allowing to avoid mistakes and pitfalls like the ones that characterized the history of asbestos.

A welding work process in a plant for the production of heavy components for the nuclear industry is analyzed through two different methodologies. The first analysis concerns the work of welders, according to the Methode de l’Auto-confrontation, proposed by Daniel Faita and widely utilized in France. An organizational analysis, extended to a biomedical analysis of health and safety conditions of workers, concerns the whole welding process, according to the Method of Organizational Congruences, proposed by Bruno Maggi, and adopted for three decades within the Interdisciplinary Research Program “Organization and Well-being”. The two methods’ complementarity and synergy, already discussed in previous publications, are emphasized both in diagnostic terms and in relation to possible work transformations aimed at improving effectiveness, efficiency and workers’ well-being.
