The Decision of Order Priority of HUD Contents for Public Transit

Bum-Jin Park; Weon-Eui Kang; Taehyeong Kim

PURPOSES: In this study, as part of an effort to develop HUD for public transit, it is proposed that the decision of order priority of contents which will be disposed to bus drivers through HUD for public transit using AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique. METHODS: In AHP analysis method brainstorming, factor analysis, hierarchical structuring, and weighting analysis were performed by applying a classical analysis method. RESULTS: By the result of analysis it is shown that unlike car drivers, bus drivers prefer information related to bus intervals, bus stop, and door open and close to information related to vehicle running. Also, bus stop information and bus interval information were ranked as first and second place in order priority of HUD contents for public transit by experts. CONCLUSIONS: This method of selecting order priority of HUD contents for public transit can provide a basic foundation for selecting order priority of traffic information contents as well as other HUD contents.

Improvement of VMS Traffic-information Contents Using Importance Preference Analysis

Bum-Jin Park; Byeong-Sup Moon

In general, drivers need a self-interest information to decide their routes. So, non-governmental sectors, such as Internet Portal Company, make and provide user-oriented contents for drivers in a hurry. But, VMS which is the typical public media always provides traffic-information for drivers without weighting personal characteristics and considering transportation conditions. So in this research, we searched importance and preference of traffic-information contents as IPA(Importance-Performance Analysis)result. We can draw the conclusion that the improvement of traffic-information contents focused on users(drivers) is needed. Specially, we proposed the strategy of VMS according to traffic conditions.

Public Transportation Information Profit Model in Using CVM(Focused on BIT)

Bum-Jin Park; Byeong-Sup Moon

BIS(Bus Information Systems) supplies the bus arrived time information for users in using BIT(Bus Information Terminal) installed on the bus stop. BIT is the device using peoples directly. So, BIT need a quick response when it flew. These are an important factor in the strategy of the BIS maintenance. BIT need a maintenance cost to operate smoothly. So, Suppose that commercial advertisement can be displayed on BIT screen in this study. And we researched an advertisement rates of the optimum level in using Contingent Valuation Method. In addition, we analyzed a characteristic of user`s depending on each time using multinomial Logit Modeling method, and studied for BIT operation and ad. displaying strategy considered user`s sex, ages and using times.

Improve the Reliability Measures of Bus Arrival Time Estimation Model

Jisoo Kim; Bum-Jin Park; Chang-Gyun Roh; Woneui Kang

In this study, we investigate to show the limitations of current bus arrival time estimation model based on each bus route, and to propose a bus arrival time estimation model based on a bus stop to overcome these limitations. Using the characteristic of bus arrival time calculated on travel time between two bus stops, we develop a model to estimate bus arrival times with the data of all buses traveling the same section regardless of bus route numbers. In the proposed model, an estimated arrival time is calculated by weighted moving average method, and verification between observed value and estimated time is performed on the basis of RMSE. Error was reduced by up to 20% compared to the existing models and the data update period was reduced by more than half that is related to the accuracy of bus arrival time information. We expect to solve the following problems with the suggested method: sudden increase or decrease in arrival time of the bus, the difference of the expected arrival times at the same stop between two or more buses having different route numbers, and impossibility of offering information of a bus if the bus is not operated with the designated schedule.

Bus Route Evaluation Hodel based on Zone Considering Interregional -By Zone Distribution of Seoul Trunk Bus

Bum-Jin Park; Weon Eui Kang; Chang-Gyun Roh; Jisoo Kim

It is necessary to evaluate methods for reasonable diagnosis for public transportation. However, previous studies have the problems in evaluation ground and propriety. Therefore, this research develop the method and equation for evaluating bus route considering interregional equity and route doubleness. This study developed in bus route evaluation method using Seoul bus Zone, and included the result of evaluation test using 199 route Seoul trunk bus (blue bus). Zone (0) (Jongno-gu, Jung-gu and Yongsan-gu) has the highest score in Evaluation result. Also this zone has good bus route, so it is easy to move to other Zone. It is possible to change and add the bus route to use the equation in this study, considering interregional equity.

Development and Operation Measure of Dynamic Traffic Signs Utilizing the Road Surface

Bum-Jin Park; Jin-Nyung Heo; Weon-Eui Kang; Young-Su Weon

Most roads in Korea are constructed through a riverside or among the mountains due to geographical characteristics, and composed of various connection roads and complex networks, which makes it susceptible to a fog, rainfall and snowfall and causes serious negligent accidents due to misperception of network while driving. This study amis at securing original technology to provide traffic information, utilizing the road surface by grafting LED and optical technology highly recognized in terms of energy efficiency recently onto ITS, thereby developing next-generation ITS service. To support the research development, H/W was developed and field test was conducted. In addition, the customer satisfaction survey towards equipment, an end product of this research development was also carried out to find out what it means to customers potentially.

Design and Fabrication FM-VMS using Watermarking Method

Byeong-Sup Moon; Bum-Jin Park; Young-Su Weon; Cheol-Seong Kim

In this thesis, Traffic information which is provided to the VMS used a FM frequency and provides real-time traffic information about the mobile production unit system which designed and produced and a quality evaluated. Result of the research, we will be able to confirm converted audio and text information from traffic information is linked with VMS information, FM broadcast traffic information to motorists passing through it were found to be and as a result of this study, which sees raises the effectiveness of VMS users and using VMS to build low-cos transport infrastructure will be an opportunity.
