A Supporting Service in Teacher Training: Virtual Newspaper

This study focuses on establishing communication via virtual newspaper in institutions where pedagogical education is provided. By considering the traditional newspapers, the role of virtual newspapers, published in the internet, in the improvement of teacher candidates, its significance on his/her interaction with the institution and the usage of this communication channel are dealt with in this study. In 2015−2016 academic year, 35 teacher candidates took part in the study. In this study qualitative research methods were used both in collecting and evaluating data. The virtual newspapers created by teacher candidates were analyzed by content analysis method and the viewpoints of the teachers to the study were researched. Obtained results of the study were as follows: Teacher candidates performed meaningful learning on educational subjects, established a link between their fields of training and areas of expertise and had the advantage of using various techniques and methods, However, teacher candidates, who were below the average in using information technologies, had some difficulties in preparing a virtual newspaper and they indicated that working on a virtual newspaper had a disadvantage as it consumed too much of their time.

The Word Cloud Illustration of the Cognitive Structures of Teacher Candidates about Teaching Concept

Graduates of Arts and Sciences Faculties attend Pedagogical Formation Certificate Programme as Pedagogical Formation Education is a necessity to be a teacher. This study was conducted for searching the views of teacher candidates attending the Pedagogical Formation Certificate Programme about education concept. The data of the study were the replies of 234 participants with a bachelor’s degree. The reply words of the teacher candidates for “education” concept in the Word Association Test were analyzed by word cloud technique. “Preparation for life”, “examination”, “course”, “education”, “stress”, “civilization” and “acquisition” words proved to be the mostly preferred words. It can be said that the students’ word associations with education concept were valid. However, some of these associations were far from the scientific information and the teacher candidates gave superficial answers more so. According to the findings of the study, Word Association Test was affirmed to be an effective technique to manifest the cognitive structure, and the results of the Word Association Test were illustrated by Word Cloud technique in order the cognitive structure manifested in the study to be comprehensible.

Türkiye’ de bilim dallarında karşılaştırmalı bibliyometrik analiz çalışması

Hizla gelisen dunyada varligini surdurmek isteyen ulkeler bilginin uretilmesine ve uretilen bilginin kullanilarak yeni uygulama alanlarina tasinmasina onem vermeye baslamistir. Yeni fikirlerin uretilmesinde farkli bilgi ve beceriler ile donanimli bilim insanlarinin birbirlerini tamamlayarak bilgi paylasiminda bulunmasi modern arastirma sistemlerinde isbirligi calismalari ile tesvik edilmektedir. Son yillarda arastirma isbirliklerinin incelenmesi matematiksel ve istatistiksel yontemlerin kullanildigi bibliyometrik calismalarin odak noktasi haline gelmistir. Matematiksel ve istatistiksel yontemlerin kullanildigi bibliyometrik calismalara ait analizler, atif veri tabanlarinin kullanilmasi ile elde edilmektedir. 50 yili askin suredir bibliyometrik calismalarin yapilabildigi kapsamli veri tabani olma ozelligini tasiyan Bilimsel Bilgi Enstitusu (Institute for Scientific Information, ISI) bu ozelligini 2004 yilina kadar korumustur. Ancak, 2004 yilinda Scopus’un kurulmasi ile beraber atif indeksleyen veri tabanlari arasinda bir rekabet ortami olusmustur. Bu baglamda her iki veri tabaninda Turkiye’nin profilini cikarmak, sosyal ve beseri bilimler ile temel bilimler alanlarinda ortak yazarli calismalari karsilastirip, disiplinler arasi farkliliklari tanimlamaya ihtiyac duyulmustur. Bu ihtiyac dogrultusunda tezin konusu; 2001-2010 yillari arasinda ortak yazarli calismalarda temel bilimler alaninda matematik konu basliginda uretilen yayinlari Orta Dogu Teknik Universitesi (ODTU) ve Bilkent Universitesi ornekleri uzerinden ulkeler, kurumlar ve yazarlar arasi isbirligi calismalarini degerlendirerek, kullanilan dergileri yine isbirligi cercevesinde karsilastirmaktir. 2001-2010 yillari arasinda Turkiye adresli makaleler temel alinarak karsilastirma yapildiginda, WoS ve Scopus veri tabanlarinin yapilarindan kaynaklanan farkliliklar bulundugu saptanmistir. Ayrica her iki veri tabaninda cikan sonuclar degerlendirildiginde Turkiye’nin uluslararasi ortak yazarli calisma oraninin dunya ortalamasinin altinda bulundugu tespit edilmistir.

DERLEME OLGUSU VE ELEKTRONİK YAYINLAR

The most important and true function of deposition practices making a contribution to knowledge sharing at uppermost level is to make it possible to present philosophy and art productions of the country by depositing to the advantage of the researches of present and future generation. But, deposition practices dated back ancient times don’t include electronic publication types occurred by the development of information technology. However, in our present day, most of the philosophy and art productions are produced and used in electronic medium. It is necessary to include electronic publications in legal deposit and to deposit in a legal dimension in order to ensure registered cultural productions to be deposited completely. Because electronic publications have differences in comparison to printed ones, it is impossible for electronic publications to be deposited by antedated legal deposits. These differences cause methods and techniques different from printed ones to be used for electronic publications at the ranks of acquisition, preservation and serving that form the process of deposition. Electronic publications are evaluated in two categories as online and offline. Because offline electronic publications have physical transporters, they resemble to printed ones. However, online publications’ being different regarding their structural features make it difficult for them to be included in deposition process of online publications. The countries considering online publications as a part of cultural existence start leading project enterprises for the deposition of online publications in order to see the problems that will be come across in the deposition of electronic publications and responsible units clearly. When these developments have being occurred in the deposition of electronic publications at international level, deposition practices cannot be performed sufficiently in our country. The reason for this is to try to perform legal deposit providing only printed publications dated in 1934 to be deposited. However, all the online and offline electronic publications as well as printed publications form a part of cultural existence belonging to our country. Consequently, it is necessary to take measures in this sense without allowing waste of much more time.
